Starhub just called me today to say that actually my speed test during peak hours is normal as we are sharing bandwidth. So i am ok and asked them to call me when they are confirm upgrading their backend equipment. Luckily i did not buy their TP-Link router. Confirmed that my wife is smart as she asked me better do not upgrade the router now. To wait for it to happen.

I would like to subscribe to VQ 3Gbps Plan.
Can anyone recommend me a reliable & value of money 2.5Gbps PCI Express network card for my PC?
Also, need recommendation on 2.5Gbps Network switch with minimum 4 ports.
I don't mind to buy from AliExpress or TaoBao if needed.
Thank you.

I went down to Westgate over the weekend to asked and there's apparently a 3rd option i.e.

S$65 + *S$15 (to change to ONT + TP-Link EB810v router) -> S$80 per month

*NB I was in a rush and did not clarify if the extra $15/month is over 24 months or only the last 12 months so I just assumed the worst.

I'm seriously considering this as I need to watch both EPL + UCL (under Sports+) + F1 (under Sports+). Currently on BeIn Sports for the latter two which just expired.

Almost signed on the spot but held back because they need "2-3 weeks" to activate the TV which means I will miss last/next Sunday's F1 races before the summer break ... KNS ...

Any comments on the above option?

I do not think so if you are just an EPL fan. You may be better off subscribe to the normal 10Gbps plan.

The new EPL 10Gbps plan comes with Nokia ONR and the effective price is at S$65 per month. The normal 10Gbps plan is only S$4.95 more expensive yet it comes with the much better TP-Link EB810v WiFi 7 router.

But if you do not mind using the lousy Nokia ONR, and yet you want Netflix and Disney+ for 24 months, then you can consider this offer.

1) The above offer is at S$65 per month effectively with Nokia ONR.
UltraSports Bundle:
1 Year FREE 10Gbps Broadband
• Premier League and Sports+
• UltraSpeed 10Gbps with WiFi 6 router
• Netflix & Disney+
• TV+ Pro Box
$45.00

per month for the first 12 months,
$85 per month thereafter.

2) The normal 10Gbps offer with ONT + TP-Link EB810v router -> S$69.95 per month
UltraSpeed 10Gbps
With ONT + WiFi 7 router

Ultra smooth and reliable connection, 4+ users and devices
1 FREE TP-Link EB810v router
(WiFi 7)
Premier League for 24 mths
Disney+ Standard on us for 12 mths
Amazon Prime on us for 3 mths
$69.95
per month

Looks quite okay since you need the Sports+ contents.

Basically Starhub allows you to top up S$15 per month to change from ONR to ONT+EB810v.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...dle-1-year-free-10gbps-broadband-onr-wif.html

1) HomeHub+ UltraSports : 1 Year Free 10Gbps Broadband

$45.00 per month for first 12 months. $85/month thereafter. For new broadband sign-ups
  • Premier League
  • Sports+
  • UltraSpeed 10Gbps Broadband
  • Netflix & Disney+, 3 months of Amazon Prime
  • Free 24-month TV+ Pro rental
  • Wifi 6 Router
2) Same as above except to top up S$15 per month to change to XGS-PON ONT+EB810v.

3) BTW, for those who like other contents, you may want to check out the website again and check with Starhub shop to see if they allow you to top up S$15 to change to ONT + EB810v.

Dear xiaofan

Thank you for your perspective on the router between the 2 plans. I would imagine the wifi 7 router is also future proof as well.

I am an EPL subscriber and my 1Gbps contract with Singtel BB will expire next month. They have send me a recontract offer for 5Gbps at $50.90 with a wifi 6 AX5400 router with the following sweeteners :
- $100 NTUC voucher
- free 12 months of Disney+ Premium
- free 12 months Viu Premium
- free 3 months of Amazon Prime
- free 3 months of Microsoft 365 Family.
I subscibe to all of the above, so they are of value for consideration.
There are some other free stuff are such as the the usual 1 month security and protection services which i will not mention, since I do not subscribe to these.

Other than the 5Gps difference, the amount i pay is pretty much the same compared to the two Starhub 10Gbps offers, assuming i top up $19 monthly for EPL if i remain on Singtel BB.

The keys considerations for me are :
a. is the additional 5Gbps going to be make a difference for next 2 years. Only 2 users at home with say 10-12 devices. Movie streaming is the most used application.
b. is the ASX5400 router from Singtel better or on par with the Nokia wifi 6 router from StarHub for $45/$85 EPL plan.
c. Will StarHub increase the price of EPL over the next 2 years. If they double it, then it’s probably better to lock into one of the EPL plans now (assuming they will not change the price of existing contract if they increase EPL subscription)

For me, i have always been using ISP issued routers, other than a period of time i was using the Apple AirPort Extreme. That means i am someone that goes for easy plug and play set-up with no complications.
So, my choice will be down to these 3 options of SingTel or the 2 Starhub offers.

My biased was towards the Starhub $45/85 plan (because it also include the Sports+ pack which allows me to watch the major European soccer leagues in addition to EPL. But i can live without the Sports+ since i am happy with just EPL. So its a good to have freebie), until i read your post about the poor Nokia router. Perhaps a good compromise would be StarHub allows subscriber to upgrade to the wifi 7 router for some additional fee

Hope to gather some thoughts.

a) No, 5Gbps and 10Gbps are the same for most users (95%).
b) Singtel AX5400 router (1G WAN port) can not be compared with Nokia all-in-one ONR as the ONR is at least 10G capable. I say Nokia ONR is lousy. But Singtel AX5400 is garbage...
c) No idea about EPL. Not interested at soccer at all.
d) I will suggest you to go with Starhub S$45/S$85 plan but choose to top-up S$15 per month to get ONT+TP-Link EB810v router, as mentioned by nephilim two posts above this post.

You cannot use the Asus ROG BE25000 (ROG GT-BE98U) router built-in Ookla Speedtest client to carry out SpeedTest for 10Gbps plan, the CPU (BCM4916, quad core Arm Cortex A53 64bit CPU) is too slow. So your results are not really valid.
Noted, I will get the Thunderbolt adaptor from Taobao, thank you.

I think whether it's acceptable or not should be up to us paying customers to decide, not them lol.
Advertised 10gbps but only getting 8gbps on a good day and 6gbps in general is not acceptable imo. If they only bill me 60% of what I'm paying then sure its acceptable to me haha.

Anyways I'm getting 7300mbps for both upload and download at the time of writing this post.
I'm gonna drop MR once my contract is up. Since they are basically using starhub's network anyways.
I am sticking with MR because I need the static IP. Not many options for me already :D

If you are existing TV user, immediately they will activate the TV for you when you call up to sign up. But the promotion is for 12 months only.

I'm on MR with static IP now, signed up with VQ a few days ago also with static IP. Will update here for the performance hahaha. It's direct fibre to sfp+ connector in the router. So not sure if that affects some performance.

Are you an existing TV user, you can actually ask them to activate the TV plan and internet now and then wait for the new TV box and router to come in 2 week time so you will never miss it. If you are not an existing user, you can connect to Starhub TV using their TV + app and then cast to your big TV then you can watch. It only take 1-2 hours to activate your TV. You do not even need to use Starhub internet to watch it. Just activate the Homehub+ sports plan now while waiting for hardware installation. That time i signed up and immediately i can watch football on my TV. If you have Starhub TV+ app on your TV or existing TV box then can watch immediately. Starhub TV contents is good. They have Netflix and Disney bundled to their homehub+ sports which is cheaper. With those two apps you already have a lot of movies and TV shows to watch la. Not enough can add in HBO go by buying from Singtel cast at $30 for 3 months and can cancel before 3 months end.

I'm sure it will be better for you. I was experiencing the same as you too for the past month or so. I was given the AXE300 router too but I didn't use it.

Just keep it connected to the router, it wouldn't make sense to connect to the ONT directly hahaha.

Hmmm I am an existing Starhub EPL subscriber, watching Starhub TV+app on my Nvidia Shield. I don't need any new TV box or router.

The staff was aware of this (passed him my nric) but insisted it won't be setup on time for F1 for the next two weeks.

Why like this ah???

If really can activate the TV plan on the spot, I will go down again (nearest Starhub for me is quite far at Westgate) these few days and try to catch my F1 this Sunday.

iirc starhub once you sign contract, the next day you can see all tv content, only when contract date starts, they take away those you did no sign up for
