i feel like slamming MR now man

9PM onward every night my game ping will spike like no business then resume normal after 12AM. Pay for gamer plan also useless. had to resort to using exitlag for smooth ping for safely purposes
We're in the same boat. Are you connected to Bukit Panjang CO as well by chance? Every night there's massive packet loss and latency increase.

Have you also tried reaching out to Support? I've tried here and just keep getting useless answers...

Basically Starhub/MR 10Gbps plan are not that worth signing-up (unless you watch EPL -- in that case go for Starhub 10Gbps plan) since they have dropped speed during the peak hours.

It is more worth to sign up Starhub 5Gbps plan (but choose ONT options).

Let's also wait for the reports of the feedbacks of VQ 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps and SIMBA 10Gbps plan.

I expect SIMBA 10Gbps to break the record for the lowest speed achieved during non-peak hours among the 10Gbps plan. But the price is low at S$29.90 per month, so even if it can only achieve 5Gbps during non-peak hours and 2Gbps during peak hours, t is not bad already.

I think you are right, unless football fan like me now then sign SH 10Gbps plan la. My guess is soon SH will upgrade its back end equipment after the grant has been approved. Now just relax and wait.

I think ISPs are trying to buy time. Now just need to wait as the ISPs have already applied for IMDA's grant to upgrade their backend equipment so just be patient and wait for it to happen.

https://www.straitstimes.com/tech/p...lion-homes-ready-for-10gbps-broadband-by-2028

Since the news came out in Feb 2024 about the grant, in July ISPs already applied for it with their detailed upgrade plan. My guess is within 6 months we should hear some good news. It will not take long for the equipment to be shipped here and installation of such equipment can be quite fast too. Next year i will upgrade my router with my early recon. I will just wait and relax.

Hi all, is that the normal speed test of Down 6555 Mbps and Up 6672 Mbps for MR 10G?

Speedtest pointed to their MR server and the testing was around 10.30 AM.

Their tech people said it was acceptable

Wait for the evening 8pm/9pm to see it drops to 4Gbps or below...

If you still get 6.5Gbps or similar during evening peak time, your results already belong to the good ones.

It will take Starhub/MR sometime to upgrade backend capacity to cope with the issue.

I see, I got this speed via the MR technician's 10g adaptor 6A cable to USB C.

but right now I can only test with their asus be25000 speed test which is integrated within the router. Yesterday night I tested it around 4500- 4700 Mbps plus minus for Down/Up speed.

okay, since it's normal I'll just wait for their backend upgrade. Thank you @xiaofan

@xiaofan

You cannot use the Asus ROG BE25000 (ROG GT-BE98U) router built-in Ookla Speedtest client to carry out SpeedTest for 10Gbps plan, the CPU (BCM4916, quad core Arm Cortex A53 64bit CPU) is too slow. So your results are not really valid.

I think whether it's acceptable or not should be up to us paying customers to decide, not them lol.
Advertised 10gbps but only getting 8gbps on a good day and 6gbps in general is not acceptable imo. If they only bill me 60% of what I'm paying then sure its acceptable to me haha.

Anyways I'm getting 7300mbps for both upload and download at the time of writing this post.
I'm gonna drop MR once my contract is up. Since they are basically using starhub's network anyways.

I do not think so if you are just an EPL fan. You may be better off subscribe to the normal 10Gbps plan.

The new EPL 10Gbps plan comes with Nokia ONR and the effective price is at S$65 per month. The normal 10Gbps plan is only S$4.95 more expensive yet it comes with the much better TP-Link EB810v WiFi 7 router.

But if you do not mind using the lousy Nokia ONR, and yet you want Netflix and Disney+ for 24 months, then you can consider this offer.

1) The above offer is at S$65 per month effectively with Nokia ONR.
UltraSports Bundle:
1 Year FREE 10Gbps Broadband
• Premier League and Sports+
• UltraSpeed 10Gbps with WiFi 6 router
• Netflix & Disney+
• TV+ Pro Box
$45.00

per month for the first 12 months,
$85 per month thereafter.

2) The normal 10Gbps offer with ONT + TP-Link EB810v router -> S$69.95 per month
UltraSpeed 10Gbps
With ONT + WiFi 7 router

Ultra smooth and reliable connection, 4+ users and devices
1 FREE TP-Link EB810v router
(WiFi 7)
Premier League for 24 mths
Disney+ Standard on us for 12 mths
Amazon Prime on us for 3 mths
$69.95
per month

Dear xiaofan

Thank you for your perspective on the router between the 2 plans. I would imagine the wifi 7 router is also future proof as well.

I am an EPL subscriber and my 1Gbps contract with Singtel BB will expire next month. They have send me a recontract offer for 5Gbps at $50.90 with a wifi 6 AX5400 router with the following sweeteners :
- $100 NTUC voucher
- free 12 months of Disney+ Premium
- free 12 months Viu Premium
- free 3 months of Amazon Prime
- free 3 months of Microsoft 365 Family.
I subscibe to all of the above, so they are of value for consideration.
There are some other free stuff are such as the the usual 1 month security and protection services which i will not mention, since I do not subscribe to these.

Other than the 5Gps difference, the amount i pay is pretty much the same compared to the two Starhub 10Gbps offers, assuming i top up $19 monthly for EPL if i remain on Singtel BB.

The keys considerations for me are :
a. is the additional 5Gbps going to be make a difference for next 2 years. Only 2 users at home with say 10-12 devices. Movie streaming is the most used application.
b. is the ASX5400 router from Singtel better or on par with the Nokia wifi 6 router from StarHub for $45/$85 EPL plan.
c. Will StarHub increase the price of EPL over the next 2 years. If they double it, then it’s probably better to lock into one of the EPL plans now (assuming they will not change the price of existing contract if they increase EPL subscription)

For me, i have always been using ISP issued routers, other than a period of time i was using the Apple AirPort Extreme. That means i am someone that goes for easy plug and play set-up with no complications.
So, my choice will be down to these 3 options of SingTel or the 2 Starhub offers.

My biased was towards the Starhub $45/85 plan (because it also include the Sports+ pack which allows me to watch the major European soccer leagues in addition to EPL. But i can live without the Sports+ since i am happy with just EPL. So its a good to have freebie), until i read your post about the poor Nokia router. Perhaps a good compromise would be StarHub allows subscriber to upgrade to the wifi 7 router for some additional fee

Hope to gather some thoughts.

Seem like the speed upgrade for VQ is live. Just logged in my account and see a new option called Speed upgrade promo. However, only let you select speed (3/5/10) and checkout leh..not much information/option...
Look like better to wait till re-contract, don't really want to spend $300 for the SFP+ ONU...

Anyone knows how often Singtel sends out recontract offers? BB contract expired about two years ago and last offer I got was from January before the 5 gig plans were a thing.

If you are out of contract you can always contact SingTel to see what kind of offer they can give to you.

As of now, 5Gbps/10Gbps recontract offer seem to be bad compared to new user. One option for you is to sign up as new customer as you are out of contract.
