i've also recently recontracted from 1GBps to 3Gbps..
the invoice i've got is also showing 1GBps. not sure why.
but tech support contacted me to arrange appt to change modem. interestingly i have just changed the modem to the new fibrehome one, ask the tech support. they just say they are told to change mine, so they have to execute the job. strange
Mine oso fibrehome modem. They need to change to the new modem to support 3/5/10Gbps BB.

Hi, gurus! I am currently planning to switch from MyRepublic 1Gbps plan to the Viewqwest 3Gbps plan. I currently own a Asus RT-AC2600 router. According to Speedtest on wifi , my download speed and upload speed are both approximately 560 Mbps. I would like to seek your advice on the following options:

1) Go for the basic 3Gbps plan at $20.98 plan for 10 months and $44.98 plan for 14 months and stick to the same Asus router
2) Go for the 3Gbps plan at $35.99 plan for 10 months and $59.99 plan for 14 months and get the Ubiquiti dream machine SE + 1 U6 lite AP (around S$150)

Appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

What is your objective first? The 2 options are on opposite ends. Are you using wired LAN? Or pure wireless?

It is not a good idea to continue with Asus RT-AC2600 which has been marked by Asus as EOLed -- no more security updates. So you will need to get a new router anyway.

If budget allows -- get the better ones and you will not regret. In this case, UDM SE + U6 Lite AP is a good combination, if you are willing to pay.

If not then there are other cheaper alternatives like Asus GT-AX6000 or TUF-AX6000 (using the 3Gbps plan as 2.5Gbps plan).

Babyjyo: I am using mostly wireless. I am contemplating running a server from home, allow remote access sometimes, run some scripts, etc But nothing very sophisticated.

Xiaofan: I am technically paying 360 for the UDM SE (through Viewqwest) + 150 for the U6 lite AP. I don't think Asus GT-AX6000 or TUF-AX6000 is as cheap?

Show me the calculations, please. I tend to think you forget the S$500 one time charge for the UDM SE.

Quick calculation below. Please correct me if I miss something obvious.
1) UDM SE price -- S$799
https://sg.store.ui.com/sg/en/collections/unifi-dream-machine/products/udm-se

2) Reference Basic plan with the SFP+ module (Huawei XGS-PON ONU stick).
3Gbps
$20.98 / month
(U.P. $44.98/Month)
$24 Off for 10 months. U.P. thereafter.

+$99 one-time charge for SFP+ Module

3) Total cost to go with the basic plan plus buying UDM SE outside
S$34.98 x 24 + S$99 + S$799 = S$1737.53

4) Total cost to go with VQ's UDM SE bundle
S$49.99 x 24 + S$500 = S$1699.76

5) VQ discount of the UDM SE is S$37.77, which means they sell you UDM SE at S$761.23.

Apologies for my mistake.I thought the $500 charge was the set-up fee. Unfortunately, it's not. Thanks a million for the clarification.

In this case, get a wifi 7 router with 1 or 2 10G LAN ports will do. And maybe u can mesh with 1 or 2 nodes for better wifi coverage.

My devices currently don't support Wifi 7 so I don't plan to go that far. What are your thoughts on the Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra + the Ubiquity U6 lite AP?

Not an expert here. Just start to learn about 10G networking recently. I believe it is the SFP+ copper module which decide NBase-T support.

@Mach3.2, please correct me if I am wrong and the SFP+ switch chipset also matters.

I have only seen 2.5G and 10G copper or Optic modules, no 5G modules. So far I have only bought 10Gbe SFP+ modules (optic and copper) and I have no intention to buy the 2.5 modules. I have also two 1G optic modules as well for testing purposes.

So back to the original question, maybe it is not a good idea to get the IOcrest 5Gbe network adapter as there will be concerns of compatibility.

IOcrest has 10G NICs but for sure not the cheapest.
SFP+ ports will only link at 10GbE. 1GbE not guaranteed. The NBASE-T speeds (2.5GbE/5GbE) are negotiated by the chip on the SFP+ to RJ45 module, nothing to do with the switch.

For the Ultra, its only 1G LAN. But the L3 security looks not bad.
Maybe u can survey more routers 1st den decide again.

As for the AP, u need a PoE switch or router to support it.

ya, that's to be expected since it's pulling more than twice the power(2W+) as compared to a typical SM/MM transceiver (~1W).

Normal, i waited for about 2 weeks before they contacted me to arrange the installation.
When I login to the VQ portal also showing 1G.
Think abt 3 days after they came to do the installation then the portal status show 3G contract.
But they already charge me for 3Gbps...Bey steady leh..

I finally received the email response, and it differs from what I was told over the phone. My suspicion was right.

Q: If I request the ONT to be set up as an ONR, can I still achieve maximum speeds of 3/5/10 Gbps by connecting the Eero Max 7 (as an AP) to the 10Gbps port, while other devices like NAS or ATV gets a maximum of 1Gbps by connecting to the other 4 GE ports?

A: We understand that you would like to check if you set the ONT as a ONR are you able to still get the maximum wifi speed of 3/5/10.
To address your question, if you set up the ONT as an ONR, you can still achieve the maximum speeds of 3/5/10 Gbps that you've subscribed to. The Eero Max 7 router, when connected to the 10Gbps port, will be able to provide these speeds. However, please note that the total bandwidth will be shared among all connected devices.

Devices connected to the other 4 GE ports will be limited to a maximum of 1 Gbps due to the port limitations, but they will still be able to utilize the available bandwidth from the total subscribed speed.

Nice. They should put this in their FAQ.

VQ old FAQ is outdated.

Q: Can I use my fibre modem as a bridge?
A: You can use your fibre modem as a bridge.

For the 2Gbps Single Network, the 4-port Fibre modem must act as the primary router. Any other routers you plan to use must be set as an Access Point.

If you wish to bridge the modem and use another router as the primary router, you’ll need to subscribe to 1Gbps Plan.
