Had a RCT completed on my upper first molar abt one month back. It was fine in the first 2 weeks. Then I started getting a pain in the area like sensitive tooth kind of pain, not on the tooth itself thou, I couldn’t pinpoint the pain source. It was uncomfortable but not that painful. I hv no basis for what I’m thinking but based on my own instincts, hehe, I think cos the dentist had purposely made this RCT tooth shorter to prep for crowning, the tooth next to it had become more exposed and sensitive and caused general pain. Plus I hv tooth grinding issues after RCT. My qn is, is it normal for a dentist to prep the tooth for crowning during the last RCT session? Dentist suggests I wait and see if the pain goes away before doing the crown. Now my second molar on the other side broke and I’m not sure if I can trust the same dentist to do another RCT.
Lets address all the points
1. Sensitivity around the tooth after RCT is not normal.
2. Made tooth shorter to prep crown will not cause sensitivity unless the next tooth already has receding gum with exposed dentine or root. You need to find out from the dentist.
3. Tooth grinding issue after RCT done is questionable. Tooth grinding shouldnt be associated with RCT. You probably already have it but with RCT done, there is possibility that the grinding could affect your tooth.
4. Yes, I believe dentist always prep tooth for crowning. During the waiting period, the tooth is sealed.
5. Second Molar broke, could it be due to your grinding? The sensitive you get could be due to this I think.
So now the qns. Is this dentist an Endodontist?
If no, I seriously think you should visit a endo specialist and visit fast.
