3. Special 5Gbps offer with ONT -- nobody has been able to get this offer so far (a few are trying). Not so sure if the link will be valid for long.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-ont-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html

I just tried the link, its working.

Is this better than WC 10Gps?

If you are comparing with WC 10Gbps, you should go with the Nokia ONR 5Gbps offer.

WC 10Gbps as well as Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps --> using ONR and that is why power users do not like them. That is the reason they want to go with the SH 5Gbps ONT offer (nobody has get the ONT installation done) than the 5Gbps ONR offer (quite some users already get it).

Seems like not much choices for ONT, if that's the case then I will just go with WC 10Gbps. Seems like a waste of money getting expensive Asus wifi 7 router and yet we cant use its features

1. Hmm. you may want to wait and see if Starhub honor the web link and give you ONT. I tend to think they will but it may take a few iterations since Stahub staff may not even know the following special offer.

Special 5Gbps offer with ONT -- nobody has been able to get this offer installed so far with ONT (a few are trying). Not so sure if the link will be valid for long.

2. If not you can go with Starhub normal 5Gbps plan and then sell the EB810v. Then you can use your own Asus WiFi 7 router to its full ability.

Normal Starhub 5Gbps plan: you can go with the S$55.39 per month plan with ONT + EB810v. You can sell the EB810v in Carousell at about S$360 to S$400. Say you sell low at S$360 (no issues to sell in that case), then the monthly price becomes S$40.39 per month.

Now we have the first confirmation that Starhub does honor the above link and installed the ONT to the user who use the link to subscribe to Starhub 5Gbps plan with ONT.

Just to share, I used the ONT link shared here:

https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-ont-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html

The StarHub person just came and installed the Nokia ONT and gave free Nokia Beacon 2. He asked me a few times if I want the ONR instead as he said the beacon 2 cannot support the 5Gbps. I say it’s ok, I’ll use back my current mesh (which is slow Deco M5) but will upgrade next time.

Main issues now for SIMBA, at least from the reports, are the following
1) Stability issue
2) Lack of support
3) Bad connection to Singtel and maybe Starhub. Quite some SG websites and services are hosted on Singtel/Starhub network. Bad routing to China -- but this may only affect some customers.
4) Clear documentation to metion the router to be used. SIMBA does offer Amazon eerom Max 7 at discounter price.
5) No digital voice -- only affected some users. May not be an issue for many users.
6) CGNAT without Static IPv4 add-on. SIMBA 10Gbps has native IPv6 which may help but it may still be an issue for those want to have a public IPv4 address. This may not affect majority of the users, but

#1 and #2 are the main problems I can not recommend SIMBA to average users.

Power users know their use cases well -- so it is usually not an issue to go with their choice of ISPs. But I would not recommend power users to go for SIMBA either because of #3 and #6.

So what low cost (around S$30) plan will I recommend now for new sign-up?

Note -- nothing wrong to pay a bit higher for better plans.

1) Average users who need a wireless router to get started and do not mind using ONR.

Starhub special 5Gbps offer with Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR
(10G capable with one 10G LAN port, with AX6000 WiFi, cannot change to ONT) and one Nokia Beacon 2 to form a mesh

2) For power users who want to use their own router and want ONT

This is the follow-up post to previous comaprisons of SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan vs WC 2.5Gbps vs Singtel 2Gbps/2.5Gbps plan.

Comparison of SIMBA 10Gbps plan, WC 10Gbps plan and Starhub 5Gbps special offer, for average users who do not mind using ONR

Power users do not like ONR. But ONR provides cheap setup to achieve 10Gbps.
And at least WC 10Gbps and Starhub 5Gbps plan will be more stable than SIMBA 10Gbps as of now.

For power users, better go with VQ 10Gbps (ONT) and Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps plan with ONT option.

For average users, Starhub 5Gbps special offer has the best value now.

1) SIMBA 10Gbps --> S$29.99 per 30 days, using CGNAT (no public IPv4 address), IPv6 supported.

The user needs to get his own wireless router. 10G capable wireless router is not cheap. If the user opts to use 2.5G capable main wireless router, the plan becomes 2.5Gbps. If the user opts to use 1G capable main wireless router, the plan becomes 1Gbps.

2) WC 10Gbps --> S$29.99 per month, 10G capable ONR provided, not using CGNAT (with public IPv4 address). No support of IPv6

The ONR is the main router for the home network. The user needs to get his own wireless router. 10G capable wireless router is not cheap. But the user can reuse his own 1G or 2.5G wireless router. It is still possble to use one 10G wired device since the ONR has one 10G LAN port. WC alsp provides another option with HB810 bundle but that is totally not worth it at S$58.90 per month.
https://whizcomms.com.sg/10gbps-broadband/

3) Starhub 5Gbps special offer with Nokia XS-2426X-A all-in-one ONR --> S$29.55 per month. Not using CGNAT, with public IPv4. IPv6 is also supported.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/st...speed-5gbps-onr-at-2955_ultraspeed-5gbps.html
xDaoM71.png

The user does not need to buy his own router to enjoy 10Gbps. And it includes one Nokia Beacon 2 which can be used as a mesh node (1Gbps capable only mesh node). It is also cheap to get second Nokia Beacon if more mesh nodes are needed.

I am not saying the Nokia Beacon 2 or even the Nokia XS-2426X-A is good, it is just that this is the cheapest way to get the user started.

Starhub has fixed its backend congestion issue and now publish typical speed for 5Gbps and 10Gbps plan.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/typical-broadband-speed-plans.html

Typical Download SpeedsLocal
1Gbps970 Mbps – 975 Mbps
5Gbps4116 Mbps - 4783 Mbps
10Gbps7599 Mbps – 8231 Mbps

need advise.

tried to renew SH 5 GBPS @ $29.55 (tried both ONT and ONR), but I got stuck at a loading screen after I clicked subscribe.

Is this because I am not eligible to subscribe or is SH site buggy (tried both Safari and Chrome)?

Are you an existing user? It is a tough one in that case. The ONR link specifically mentions it is only for new users.

You may want to check the following page to see the struggle to get the ONT link to work for existing Starhub users.

As an existing customer when I click subscribe now, it show my home address and eligible for upgrade and I press upgrade now but on select routers page is loading screen forever.

I recall that I also experienced this issue back then, and I had to disable all my ad-blocker browser extensions temporarily for the process to go through.

No ad block or any extension installed, must see luck i think

If you manage to successfully submit the order and receive the email confirmation and service agreement do update us as I failed after trying many times as an existing user.

Starhub has been annoying me recently - mainly latency when gaming (seems like routing stability) - so I'm thinking of getting a cheap (lowest speed) 2nd line (I often work from home so this is useful anyway).

For gaming I'm thinking MR, or Singtel for what I imagine is decent international transit/peering.

If anyone has MR or Singtel, could you try a quick ping to a couple of Blizzard's servers: 158.115.197.106 (AU) and 66.40.177.13 (US)

Would be great if SG ISPs had a looking glass to compare latency... Singtel does but its just a broken web page, which isn't inspiring.

Thanks for that - slightly higher (10ms or so) than Starhub, but not that bad! and MR do a no-frills 3gbit plan which would be ideal - tempting!

some users in the MR thread complaining about ping stability during peak hours. I don't game, so I'm not noticing it.

MR should be a better choice for gaming than Singtel. You may also take a look at MR Gaming Plan. MR may have some issues right now but it should be sorted out soon.

One more disadvantage of Singtel is the use of ONR.

From Singtel (5Gbps plan with Singtel F8648P ONR).

Yeah looks like it may be, and I really like the no-frills plan as I can just plug it into my UDM Pro for 2nd WAN and route via it where needed.

That being said, from a redundancy point of view, Starhub + MR may not be the best idea as the backend of the XGS-PON based plans are said to be merging.

Starhub + VQ or Starhub + M1 may be a better choice in that aspect. VQ and M1 may have good routing as well.

Not too worried about physical infra being merged - but if they start using Starhub transit/peering, then yeah I'd rather avoid.

VQ and M1 may have good routing as well.
VQ looks good but their website and plans are awful to navigate - looks like you can't just get a bundle with just an ONT/ONR (since I just want to hook it up to my existing UDM and I'm using its SFP+ ports for SH).

Would need to see VQ and M1 latency to 158.115.197.106 (AU) and 66.40.177.13 (US) as well to be sure, but MR as it is, if not using SH transit/peering, is looking like the best option.
