I've only used Sar21 twice. The scope is nice though. Very easy to shoot. I think no need to zero? I dunno forgot.

But I still prefer M16. More rugged and reliable.

And yes, using the iron sight is much more satisfying and fast.
Every gun need to zero de Bro jadedRomeo! :(

M16 iron sight confirms not as easy as the SAR21 scope. Day shooting is still okay. Night shooting is a lot more difficult with only a small highlight guide.

So moi enlisted on 2011... :(

During BMT and medic school, we use SAR21 to train... :(

Very good gun, short short so easy to move around, then got scope so very easy to shoot... :(

Some more charging handle by the side so easy to pull... :(

Then moi got posted to Air Force and we are forced to use M16 because we are considered rear units... :(

The M16 so long move around so mafan... :(

Then the iron sight so jialat so hard to shoot... :(

Charging handle also at the back which make it hard to pull... :(

But why so many old bird said M16 better? Is it nostalgia? :(
It makes a good walking stick. Also, it is better balanced without a loaded mag inserted. SAR21 is very front heavy.

In the kind of action SG troops are likely to see tho, I think the SAR21 is the better conscript rifle.

Anybody can pick one up and plink off man sized targets at 100m with little training. That’s really important.

AR15 platform requires quite a bit more skill to use well, and the old rifles SAF has are a bit worn. We used to stuff twisted tissue between upper an lower receiver to stop the wiggles at range time.

I trained with M16 during BMT and OCS. Used carbine when posted to Armour. Reservist transition to SAR. Different unit/vocation will have different requirements and needs, so preferences will definitely vary. Priority is to take down your opponent before your opponent takes you down. Based on my last appointment before I MR, I believe the SAR will enable me to do my job best.
