Hi guys, Singtel came over to do up my recontract for 5Gbps at $29.90 per month last week. I recontracted via the link Xiaofan shared, HUGE thank you to you!! So I'm sharing about the process. I'm not some heavy bandwidth user, just looking for cheap and stable plans. Some "weird" things that happened:
1. Prior to the appt, my contract actually stated the WIFI 7 router. To be honest for me, I'm not that particular about speeds. Just need a stable network to stream normal shows and general internet/app usage. And at any point of time, only 1 or 2 people will be using the WIFI network. So whether it's the WIFI 6 or 7 router is okay for me. (Side note, I was just a little worried about whether the specs of my household devices are compatible with WIFI 7, since some are a little old).
2. 1 day before the appt, I received this "free offer" from Singtel - free Singtel TV. I dunno what kinda bundle this is. I asked again and again whether there will be extra monthly charges. The agent over the phone said "no, installation is free, no additional monthly charges on top of the internet". I just agreed to it since it's free. I'm also not particular about any TV entertainment since I hardly watch TV, but my parents may like to have it.
3. During the appt, the young technician who came over installed the WIFI 7 router at first. Somehow or rather, I just have this feeling that some weird problem may crop up, so I offered him a cold drink to set him at ease and told him to take his time. He told me that the Singtel TV setup will probably be on another appt date, which kinda confused me, but I didn't ask much since I don't really care about the TV package lol
4. After everything was installed, he suddenly received an update from Singtel saying that my package is different (I guess there were delays in their sales communication). He dismantled the new setup and returned to his car to retrieve a new set of equipment, this time including the TV stuff, but the WIFI 7 router got changed to the WIFI 6 router.
5. In total, the technician stayed for like 1.5 hours lol. He became quite chill and friendly and honestly mentioned that Singtel equipment actually sucks, and regardless of whether it's the WIFI 6 or 7 router, the wireless range is shitty because Singtel simply wants its customers to pay more money to upgrade to the elite routers (but I guess the WIFI 7 should be faster lah). He also taught us how to configure, reconfigure and use the equipment (inclusive of the Singtel TV box).
6. When the router had some initial trivial connectivity issues, he was also happy to pick up my call on his personal phone to troubleshoot for me.
So far, I have double checked the contract price and it seems like its at $29.90. The costs/figures for the Singtel TV service agreement are completely empty, which suggests that it's true that it's completely free. I have also removed all the ridiculous unnecessary add-ons for the Internet package.
I will check the new bill when it comes in March to absolutely confirm that there are no extra charges.
