Beyond told ST that Megan’s grandmother, who was her caregiver under the temporary care plan, was hesitant to file a police report, fearing it would irreparably damage her relationship with her daughter and cut her off from her granddaughter.

The caseworkers maintained regular contact with the grandmother over the next several months, and encouraged her to continue trying to reach Megan’s mother and to update Beyond on any developments.

“It was only in January 2020 that the grandmother acknowledged she had lost all contact, and consented to file a police report,” said Beyond. She was accompanied by a caseworker to file the report.

Grandmother was the caregiver under temporary care plan but the poor child was not staying with her? And this was normal to the caseworkers?

Why did the school contact EDCA?
Just to say " Hi, we have a student named Megan "?
Definitely told them about bruises or at least that they suspected abuse.
That alone should have been enough for them to investigate to find out the extent of her injuries, and whether she was being abused.
A child is dead, thanks to their indifference and negligence.

An innocent Singaporean child has suffered inhumane torture and died in horrific and painful conditions. The law needs to change and EDCA needs to step up and improve processes so that these never happen to any child ever again. Meghan’s story should be immortalised into education/documentary so that future Singaporeans will remember this incident forever and never allow any of these future abuse incidents to go unnoticed and leading to this kind of horrific tragedy.

They are not completely faultless in this case. The issue was already raised to them and they never followed up properly and ensure that Meghan didn’t die. Obviously death of a child is already an utter complete failure on everyone’s part (Singaporeans) and our entire society.
