Singaporeans showed their support for PM Wong and his 4G team: SM Lee on GE2025 results

In a Facebook post early this morning, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the results from GE2025 showed that Singaporeans understood it was crucial to come together to deal with the immense challenges ahead.

“We showed unambiguously our support for PM (Lawrence Wong) and his 4G team,” said SM Lee.

He added it was vital that PM Wong win a good mandate in this election to show Singaporeans, and the world, that he has the full support of a united nation. “This election result achieves that,” said SM Lee.

He added that the PAP government under PM Wong will “do its best to serve you” and urged Singaporeans to come together to “show what Singapore can do”.

Analysis: Unwavering, steady messaging pays off for PM Wong and PAP

Linette Lai Assistant News Editor

4bad25.png

Historically, the PAP's national vote share dips after a new prime minister takes office, but Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reversed the trend this time. He secured a clear - and unexpected - mandate of 65.57 per cent yesterday.

When Mr Lee Hsien Loong led the PAP into battle for the first time in 2006, the party's vote share slipped nearly 9 percentage points. The PAP's vote share also fell in the 1991 election, which was Mr Goh Chok Tong's first general election as prime minister.

In contrast, PM Wong improved on the ruling party's 2020 vote share of 61.23 per cent.

What explains the electorate's huge swing in the PAP's favour this year? It was partly the PAP's characterisation of what was at stake: Vote for us to give Singapore its best shot at navigating a turbulent world.

The People's Action Party (PAP) won a supermajority of the seats this General Election, securing over 80 per cent of the vote share in three different constituencies — the first time since 2001.

Everything all as I'd predicted.

yes, true that. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. History had demonstrated in the "5 Greats" - Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Tojo, Kim.

But the 5 nations above, all had a strong history of monarchy - Emperors, Kaisers and Tsars with a large subjugated peasant community which made it easier on dictators rising or making use of a silent monarchy to exercise their power. The system is pretty much unlike Singapore with segregation of power branches for the past 60yrs.

It would be foolish to assume that such a dictator would not arise at all in Singapore. After all, it takes a great liar and a charlatan appointed to power in PAP + win a super majority in Parliament to allow the amendment of constitution to consolidate power at the pinnacle around a single person + the person needs to lead, command and takeover the entire PAP cadre system.

i'd think the nature of our system itself, already provide this level of check and balance naturally to prevent the rise of despotic dictators. U need not worry tbh.

The self check system already showing gradual signs of weakening through iswaran, rideout , ntuc income cases ,etc .

I suppose every good things comes to an end eventually.

You can't just honor LKY legacy but ignore his wills . It's doesn't make sense at least to me lol .
