It's not supposed to light up according to the myRepublic Technician

MyRepublic's backend does not transmit that particular signal for the internet light to light up. Other ISPs around the world may have that implementation, just not myRepublic.

Most important is whether your PON light stays lit, or if it turns red.

I may be wrong but I tend to believe the Internet LED will only light up when it runs in ONR mode. It will not be ON when running in ONT mode (MR only used ONT and not ONR).

Example:
Starhub uses Nokia XS-240X-A in ONT mode.
SingTel uses Nokia XS-240X-A in ONR mode.

MR uses Nokia XS-250X-A, XS-240X-A and now XS-140X-A, all in ONT mode.

Windows detects the connection as a 10Gbps capable link.
i suspect that windows might be reporting that solely because it's a SFP+ module negotiating at 10G for the "host-facing" interface, while the actual link speed negotiated with the ONT is only 1G

it would make sense if your 10GbaseT SFP+ module is a multigig capable one, i would expect all of them to do something similar

check your cables, maybe? or perhaps any LED indicators on the SFP+ that might tell you the speed that has been negotiated with the peer

1. Try a few things like below first.
1) Make sure you use OOkla SpeedTest app and not browser.

2)Try to test at another time.

3) Disable 3rd Antivirus ot other 3rd party security applications to see if that helps. IMHO they are virus by themselves under Windows.

3) Get a cheap UGreen USB 3 to 2.5G adapter and see if you can get better download speed.

2. If still got the same issue, boot into a live Linux session with a USB Flash Drive or USB SSD and see if you get different speed or not.
yo thanks xiaofan for ur unwavering presence in this thread

responses as follows:

1) Using speedtest app for windows, not browser. speed test results as follows as extracted from app below:

2) Tried across a few days but can't seem to pull the results

3) Default Windows Defender is completely disabled, disabled my security solution but still no change in speed

4) Don't have. Best I tried was to swop out my existing NIC with another Mellanox card I have on hand. Still no change. Changed out the LAN cable as well, and the SFP+ module. Still the same result...

5) Tested it on a different desktop PC with higher specs and still same result.

I reached out to MyRepublic to see if it's a backend issue but so far they said that the Fibre signal is fine, and they will need to escalate.

the upload speed managed to hit 3Gbps so the cable can definitely handle the full 10Gbps. i have never heard of cables/adapters providing assymetric link, more so where upload > download :ROFLMAO:

I just recontract 10 Gbps with Asus GT-BE25000 router. Now my wireless speed faster than LAN..
If want higher speed on LAN, need to upgrade LAN cable and hardware.
What is your wireless speed like? I assume they are WiFi 7 devices too?

can I ask if anyone has recontracted recently? when recontracting, do they still charge you these?

Charges should not be in there if same installation address. Just inform myrepublic and they should waive it

wau lau, MR gamer plan latency is getting worst and worst...after merging with SH

last time ping to AU 90ms, now 130ms
sigh, but they generally still seem to be better than all the other telcos though.
My personal experience is MR vs VQ and ST.

ST is rubbish, I’m not sure about VQ.

I’m on M1 gamer for last 3 years and thinking of which to recontract to also. I feel like vs M1 no point going over to MR. Price almost double for same speed and still using cgnat or static ip. No ipv6 also.

Only thing is m1 no longer got gamer plan, and I’m not sure how good the ping is in the regular plans.

How was your VQ experience? I was previously using MR, switched over to VQ when I moved to a new place.

And I really regret switching... VQ has been highly unstable for me. A lot of intermittent disconnections. Will never recommend it to anyone.

There are quite a number of users complained about the stability of VQ in VQ thread.

Is gamer plan still worth it? Or just normal Mr 3gbps plan will do.
If you are not particular about latency for your games, you can still play games on MR 3Gbps.

MR GAMER plan just give you the option to request to optimise the best custom routes (if any). It does not mean that you cannot play games on normal MR plan.

i just renewed recently with VQ. both VQ & MR have their issues.
MR has better routing and lower latency, but once you have issues with them, their support is more difficult to reach and resolve them.

VQ network performance isn't as good as MR, but I'm able to resolve issues easier than MR as I just have to drop an email to them. Although it will take awhile for them to resolve it.
Interestingly, my VQ connection has been way more stable than lots of other VQ users. Perhaps its my location..

So pick your poison 😐

Is there a concern of not having IPv6? I am not assessing a lot of Chinese sites.
