Is it default everyone get tested or by choice?

Why can't it be by experience of having kids? Seems odd for the choices to only be ai or professional.
Amniocentesis is optional. It's offered to women above 35, those with family history, or had previous children with genetic chromosomal conditions.

It's not compulsory as it carries a small risk too, and up to the mother's own personal choice.

My sis has a baby, so my parents and I have some knowledge on pregnancy, childbirth etc too.

i think by default court give custody to female , if not joint
so woman would likely be irresponsible
I dunno but if one spouse is Singaporean and the other is foreigner, in cases like this will full custody ever be awarded to the foreigner? Cos the child is a Singaporean

Even if joint custody, if the wife is not even PR, how does joint custody work? By default the foreign spouse will be allowed multiple entries into Singapore?

Think many is of the impression those pre-natal checks can identify those more serious issues bah. Give many they also will be surprised under that expectation.

the normal scans will check for nose bridge.. got a more throrough test is to get some liquid from the womb to go for testing.

maybe now have less intrusive tests.

Based on how screwed your life can get by having such kids, maybe gov should make it compulsory for everyone.

Amniocentesis is not free btw, public hospital subsidized price is abt $900 ish.
If you go private, the cost will be $3k plus.

I'm surprised some men don't know that their sperm quality drop significantly with age causing birth defects. Not simply so long I buy a young foreign wife can liao. Besides, a 50 yo father doesn't have the stamina of a 30 yo to chase and play with young children and staying up, waking up several times in the night.

Usually 法庭会把孩子判给妈妈. We don't know what's going on with the kid's mother, but from the report I think the young mum got too stressed giving birth to and taking care of this child.

As I said, this is an unfortunate incident. There are much blissful marriages of uncles and 20+yo lasses from Asean and China and India. Don't use this incident to stir foreign bride issues and old ppl's mindset of keeping the family 香火 (procreation of next generation).

There is a technology to edit away the extra chromosome, but it is not ready for human trial. It is call CRISPR. in the future, you go lohkoonchu the doc will just take the stem cell and click click click on the computer and the nano-scissors (ie bacteriophage) is released from a very tiny needle to cut away that particular chromosome.

one in 800 babies gets an extra copy of extra chromosomes, leading to disabilities and weird facial features. down is one of them. In down syndrome, there is an additional copy of chromosome 21 resulting in three copies instead of the usual two copies. down syndrome is a genetic condition caused when an unusual cell division results in an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. thus it is also called trisomy 21.
edwards syndrome - extra copy of chromosome 18
patau syndrome - extra copy of chromosome 13
klinefelter - syndrome xxy
triple x - syndrome xxx
these conditions occur when a person has an extra copy of a chromosome in each cell.

Oh that's expensive, however imo gov should make it compulsory and subsidized it considering the long term cost of having disabled kids will be significantly higher.
