For those who want to read our "guiding principal" for hawkers

https://www.mse.gov.sg/latest-news/...inability-and-the-environment-dr-koh-poh-koon

Has these been met ?

------
106 First, SEHC operators possess industry knowledge and experience. They can leverage their expertise in F&B and stall management to ensure the vibrancy of new centres. Indeed, many have done so by developing a variety of localised programmes, including initiatives tailored to the community to drive visitorship, and incubation programmes to provide business advice and support to aspiring hawkers.

107 Second, SEHC operators can leverage their F&B networks to curate food mix and support stallholders to fine-tune their menu, such as through food tastings. This supports both hawkers and consumers – allowing the hawker centres to feature food that meet patrons’ expectations, which in turn supports hawkers’ businesses.

108 Third, SEHC operators can introduce new and innovative practices, to support stallholders in navigating changing operating contexts and industry developments, such as onboarding onto digital and online ordering platforms. This helps our hawker centres evolve and keep up with trends.

109 Good curation and visitorship are important ingredients for a vibrant hawker centre. These allow hawkers to thrive and earn a fair livelihood. In turn, when hawkers find it viable to operate stalls for longer hours, a centre can better meet the dining needs of the residents and community. These are the objectives that had to be met – and we believe can be met – by the SEHC management model.

From Seetoh's post, I just learnt that the operators are paid by NEA to run the hawker centre. Now it seems that they are totally no social responsibility. All the social burden to meet NEA requirement for SEHC to be bear by hawkers alone.
两边都吃,真可恶!!! We need COI for this!!!

"113 The SEHC operator pays assessed market rent, but also bids for a management fee from the Government to operate the centre as part of the tender. So, the cost of operating the SEHC is partially borne by the Government

114 We have safeguards in place to ensure that operators do not profiteer, and are expected to work closely with NEA as well as hawkers, to consider the interests and needs of both hawkers and residents."

This is from your official govt.

15% is ridiculous ...

I think such practice stems from all the malls too in sinkieland if not wrong ... landlords will take a certain percentage from the sales of successful businesses ... anyone can confirm if this were the common practice?
If you are lucky enough to be at the right place right time, you can catch the food court manager going stall to stall emptying the cash registers. I saw that in koufu.

High chance those foodcourt stalls that all use the same POS machine are having this practice.

"120 When submitting tender proposals, prospective SEHC operators must also include their proposed stall rentals and other operating costs charged to stallholders. To provide stability for stallholders, upon award of the tender, operators are not allowed to vary hawkers’ rent and other operating charges over the tenancy term, and must keep costs transparent."

Yaoxiukia demand MP Edward Chia to come clean. Although he had step down now and wear white doesn't mean he knows nothing previously. Yaoxiukia demand PAP to assemble a monitor team to monitor the integrity of their MPs and if need be ask the party whip to whip him. Yaoxiukia is very disappointed with this and with the constant witch hunting by KF seetoh, yaoxiukia finds PAP is rotten with PoohBor kia instead.

Won't win one rah

These are establishments who have extensive networks, i.e. ranging from legal to contractors all over the island

They would have legal counsel to draft such contracts terms in order to stay profitable and protect themselves at the same time

What's wrong with making more money???

The operators are definitely socially responsible.
And the 1st POOR people that they are saving is themselves.

The unit in charge seems to lying flat on how the operators are running the show.
Looks like some broken system to me.

PAP just want to squeeze and tax everyone. Don’t believe those here who say this is not PAP doing. It is 100% their shotgun.

yes it an common practice for food court, in fact they are so concern about your side not paying it, that they will ask a staff to collect the sales commission from your stall at the end of the day,

that was the practice last time, but i not sure if it still being practice.

also gov pay them to run the hawker centre, why they still need to try to sqeeze the hawkers this and that.

15% GTO? 🤔

For coffeeshop chains and food courts, I understand. But for hawker centre stalls? That's really profiteering. Still earn money from government for managing the place..

small victory.

6 months later all is forgotten and the history will repeat itself.

i think ppl don't seem to realise problems in sg keep repeating itself year after year....
Currently this issue highlighted by KF Seetoh, our housing situation, our ever-increasing COLs and job situation due to MNCs/Big Bank outsourcing, etc. are structural in nature.

Definitely they are NOT isolated incidents and are linked together, forming a systemic issue which plagues the entire country.

All the above aspects, etc. are simply due to SG ever-increasing moving towards a full-blown Landlord Economy now.

To put it simply, MIWs are the biggest landlords and they have a vested interest in rent going up as they get richer.

Nevermind that, it makes up poorer.
Our tax system is already evident of it, no capital gain and relatively little estate taxes, etc.

There should be stronger taxes levied on those whom owns more than 1 property

*(For those whom own 2 properties, if there are situations e.g a family members suddenly pass away and a family member inherit it on top of their own houses. Then it is understandable)

We are heading in Hong Kong's direction right now, nothing is stopping MIWs.

The previous boss is only concerned about enriching the economy.
So, why would they do anything if they are making more money ?
Just wait for the noise to die off.

I saw some people at a rental block. They get a free small box of lunch every afternoon.
