My mobo only has 5GbE and I have 10Gbps plan, been looking for addon card for a while, my understanding is Intel cards are a decade old and not thermal efficient, Marvel cards have drop out and I've been waiting for the Realtek 8127 (turns out from post above only hits 7Gbps).

Should I just wait until next gen mobo have built in stable 10GbE nic? I don't really need 10GbE but its more for showing off to my Australian friends

The 7Gbps number may be due to motherboard PCIe limitations. Real performance may be better than that.

The same bilibili person who post rtl8127 limit at 7Gbps already post new video to retest.he said early limit at mobo pcie z790 iinw.

Rtl8127 can hit 10Gbps.
Mine rtl8127 with singtel plan highest speedtest is 8.2Gbps.

Yeah I didn't want to deal with attaching a fan or additional heatsinks on this chip thats why I held off buying it.

Buying an NIC with built-in fans or good heat sinks.

I have one Intel X520 dual 10Gbe SFP+ NIC (with fan) and one Intel X540-T2 based dual 10Gbe RJ45 NIC (with heat sink). Both are cheap second hand NICs from Taobao, not tested much but both seem to work. But they do not support 2.5Gbe/5Gbe. And the drivers for Windows 11 are already not updated by Intel. So X550 may be better.

I got this from Taobao, as the price is lower than AliExpress.

On first use, i feel it is more stable than the Marvell AQC113 i am using. I do have a minor issue - my old motherboard only has a PCI-E 2.0 slot. And since this is a x1 card, the PCI-E 2.0 slot cannot reach the maximum bandwidth of 10 Gbps. I could only reach 3 Gbps on Speedtest.net, most probably because of PCI-E 2.0 x1. No big deal, at least it is more stable than Marvell.
I got the RTL8127AT from Taobao.

This is the model on PCIe 3.0 x4, compared to the RTL8127 which is on PCIe 4.0 x1.
Happy to report, on my old motherboard with a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot, i am able to achieve the maximum 5 Gbps speed on my SingTel 5 Gbps plan. I do not have a 10 Gbps plan to test the maximum 10 Gbps speed.

If you intend to get the 8127, do ensure that your motherboard has a PCIe 4.0 slot, otherwise the older PCIe versions may not be able to achieve the maximum speed on x1. If you don't then i suggest you get the 8127AT instead.

P.S. I can't find any related threads so I post here.

IMHO.
I am embarking on the 10Gbe journey by installing Cat6a cables.
I was wondering anyone got any experience to share DIY patch cables using cat6a cables and cat6a plugs?
Similar to Cat5e ?
