Need some advise:

Current M1 BB contract ends Jul2026, 1Gbps @ $36.84. Using my own router Asus TUF Gaming AX4200

Now i received an offer for "free speed upgrade" to 6Gbps @ the same price of $36.84 with free Asus RT BE92U. Basically super early recontract?

Wise to take up this offer? And if so should i continue using current router and sell new one, Or use new BE92U and sell the old wifi 6 router?

I will say it is okay to recontract.

If you do not have issues with the current TUF-AX4200, you can sell the new RT-BE92U to offset the monthly subscription price by quite a bit (say, selling at S$264 and reduce S$11 per month). TUF-AX4200 is also supported by OpenWRT. So it can enjoy long security updates even after Asus stops the support in the future.

If you like to see great SpeedTest number, you can go with RT-BE92U.

When they say free speed upgrade, did they say it would be continuing with the contract or re-contract?

Take note that the new re-contract price will be discounted off, after 24-months, price will revert to $90++. You have to put into your calendar to re-contract timely, otherwise you might be shocked when you receive your bill on the 25th month.

Yes it seems what you said is true, that it will revert to non-discounted rate i.e. $90 after 24mths. Thanks for pointing that out.

Does that also mean my current 24mth contract ending Jul 2026, if not recontracted on time, will revert to non-discounted rate? This plan was signed as a new M1 BB user.

I don't think RT-BE92U to have much greater WiFi range than TUF-AX4200. In fact 2.4GHz range may be worse.

I am visiting China and the relative only has 100 Mbps Fibre Internet and low end Huawei AX2 router (AX1500). It is actually pretty smooth when I use WiFi and Wireguard VPN on my Singapore home router.

1) No router bundle. If you need a router bundle, I will actually recommend M1 6Gbps recontract offer at about S$36.90 per month with free Asus Archer BE805 or Asus RT-BE92U. Please check with M1 on your specific recontract offer.

2) Yes in general. You may want to go to M1 Shop to check.

Don't think M1 provides the SIP credentials for retail customers, easiest is just buy a cheap DECT phone to use.

Or you can get something like Grandstream HT813 to connect the FXO to the phoneline and pair with Asterisk, if you REALLY want it to appear as a SIP softphone on your laptop or phone.. although I don't think that is what you want..

I just thinking, since the home phone is plug into the box. If can receive the call directly from mobile phone or laptop then no need rush to pickup call from a single cordless phone in the living room and save the money to buy the phone every few years.

No, the other gigabit ports are disabled as it is configured as an ONT.

If you find 1gbps to be plenty, can consider StarHub 3gbps passion card promotion at 29.55 and sell the free router
