Care to enlighten what's the difference between l1 and l2 Nat acc levels?

I don't have the full details regarding what are the differences between Level 1 and 2 NAT acceleration with my correspondences with ASUS TW/RMerlin, let me check them and reassured i will post more when i have it. I'm curious as well ;) :D

ASUS TW will eventually implement 2 levels of CTF settings for their Broadcom based routers i think but there is no time line for this i'm afraid.

The Broadcom SDK in used for ASUS RT-AC68/AC-56 are different for ASUS RT-N66/AC66U (ARM Cortex A9 CPU vs MIPS CPU) + ASUS current priorities are to bugfix, performance tuning/enchancements for ASUS RT-AC68U and ASUS RT-AC56U.

Getting 296.303 with CTF Level 1
Getting 301.303 with CTF Level 2

connection has been stable, no reboots (THANK GOD) as yet.

I've also managed to setup the older 66U as a bridge to my NAS... not getting fabulous speeds but 100% more than what I was getting previously.

over all good router however I feel it would be the same as the 66U if the latter didnt have the auto reboots!.

nice hoot anyways :)

Nice :D

Anyway, my source don't know much about the ASUS NAT acceleration L1 and L2 much either pending the release of the latest GPL source code at the moment, he suspect something related to the BCM FA + ARM SDK + another level of HW acceleration. As usual the BS Broadcom CTF close code stuff :s22: :s22: per our correspondences.

Name removed.

Hi XXXX,

Do you know what is the differences between L1 and L2 NAT acceleration (since ASUS have renamed from hardware acceleration) Care to share what is appropriate if you have any info?

Thanks & regards

Maylyn

No idea, they haven't released any source code in weeks. I suspect one level might also enable BCM FA, which I saw appear in the source code starting with the ARM SDK, but this is once again Broadcom's typical BS closed source stuff from CTF, so no idea what FA even stands for, or what it does beside being an additional level of HW acceleration done through CTF.

Use for Music Streaming

Has anyone used this for streaming music from iTunes to an Airport Express?

I have a linksys E4200v1 at the moment, which has been acting up a lot. At the same spot I see the signal strength fluctuate a lot.

Thinking of changing but one of the key concerns is streaming music to my airport express. Loathe to buy the Airport Extreme - though that's my last ditch fallback solution.

Thanks
TC

have not tried however why not you google and find out? I'm sure there will be pools of users running the scenario you mention and on this router?

That's the trouble. I can find gobs of data on the older routers but nothing on the current crop - this, the NightHawk OR the Linksys 6900.

That's precisely my scenario - just add a music system at the end is all.

I thought the same - i.e. why shouldn't it work - and bought the e4200 a couple of years ago. The streaming has worked imperfectly for 3/4 months of the two plus years.

Which is why the more in depth research before spending close on $300!

Shame that Singapore doesn't have US style return policies that I can buy and test...

could be a variety of factors. you mentioned it worked 3/4 times and this proves that it streamed through succesfully but with drop outs/lag due to ???? ?

What Wifi Standard are you leveraging for the end to end connectivyt and what's the bandwidth and distance between your source and destination ?

source being your PC, destination being your APE.

have you tried performing a persistant ping test to identify if there are any packet drops?

No packet drops. AE is located roughly 10 feet away from router but around a corner. It connects happily to the wifi network but doesnt show up in itunes. Replaced the e4200 with an apple router and voila everything works.

There is some sort of broadcast (some have pointed to the instability of the multicast feature) issue from the wireless to AE.

NVM. Will continue googling. IF anyone has any info - please let me know!

Anyone using dual WAN feature of this router? Thinking of signing up another fiber line and use this router for load balancing.
