Currently i only have 1 FTP port in my living room, so if I were to take up VQ, Opennet will do all those drilling and stuff again for another FTP port?

Yes, my understanding is that the ONT belongs to Opennet and that of 1 ONT 4 RSP etc.

It seems pretty inconvenient for consumers to have multi service providers etc >.>

I was hopping to have a smooth transition by having 2 ISP before terminating my existing one.
One FTP has 2 ports, so what most customers do is submit application to VQ on the 2nd port.

Then, they will only terminate their previous ISP once VQ is activated and online, to avoid any disruption - just in case there is any delay on OpenNet side (touch wood, it is less common these days after the IT shows/MR sagas).

Each FTP has two strands of fiber that goes to each port. This means you can have two completely separate connections, from different ISPs, on one FTP.

If your 1st port is already occupied we can take port 2 - OpenNet will not need to do any drilling, but they will need to test the 2nd port to make sure the signal is good (we've unfortunately encountered a high number of cases for port 2 where the fiber was not done properly and it resulted in service activation delays :( ).

We HIGHLY recommend that you wait until our service is up and running before terminating your existing line - just in case there's any delays with OpenNet, so you arn't left without internet.

Hey guys, got qn here.

Firstly, here's my setup
Living room - zhone to router mode >>>>cat6>>>>> bedroom Asus router set to router mode also.

Understood that for one voice, it has to be plugged in to zhone rj-11 cable slot.
Is there any way such that the phone can be connected in my bedroom to my router?

OneVoice can only come from those RJ-11 ports - but you can plug a cable into phone socket in wall and you'll have OneVoice from any port in the house (provided there's no other phone service running on it).

Also...would recommend you bridge the Zhone if you want to use Asus in router mode - If you do router to router...you're gonna have a bad time.

By right 1 FTP should have 2 port.So by right you should be able to use the 2nd one for Viewqwest without need for installation. But if, like my previous post, IF there is a cock up, and you need 2nd FTP it costs 220 and even more delay time to get the connection up.

Thank you all for your detail explanation.

Just wondering by any chance if the zhone can have 2 one voice line and two number?

Hmm so you wanna pay for 2 OneVoice subscriptions?

Technically, it's possible - POTS1 and POTS2 port on the Zhone serving different numbers.

But gotta check with billing department if they can do it :)

We were the first and still the only provider to not implement any form of caps on International bandwidth. We do no traffic shaping or engineering whatsoever.

Does no traffic shaping means no QOS control?

Meaning VQ users will not face network congestion of any kind?

And this is achieved purely by over-provisioning?

All GPON has a contention ratio, same for upstream providers as well.

But VQ invests back into capacity as needed thus it's very rare to experience any degradation in performance based on time of day.

On the other hand local capacity definitely is a few years in the future (or rather, other ISPs practices are, frankly, a relic of the past, technologies like MPLS and ATM and other frame-based networks etc. are still widely used)

Typically also, smaller ISPs (uh, you know which lah) rely on one major ISP as an upstream provider, while VQ maintains its own portfolio of upstream providers and a diverse peering locally and overseas, thus having direct control over certain services eg Netflix, BBC, PPTV, TVB and such by investing into US/London/China/HK links.

Hi i'm halfway on my 200mbps 3 months promotion and i can say i'm very very pleased with the services so far and i'm addicted to netflix.

Here comes a problem, i travelled overseas recently and could not watch netflix without a VPN. I'm paying VQ's Freedom VPN, is there anyway i can set up the VPN while i'm overseas?

Its a real bummer that I have to use 3rd party VPN like Hotspot VPN paying about the same price...

Is there anyway at all that we can set up VQ Freedom VPN in overseas, or outside our home on my ipad?

If not its really a waste and i would be considering stop VQ Freedom VPN subscription moving forward, and go 3rd party VPN at the same price...

VQ VPN is really just a "static" VPN for convenience sake...
What I really need is a mobile VPN i can use anywhere instead of just home...

miss the fact that i can't watch netflix outside home :(

I have an Asus RT-AC68U and I set up the built-in OpenVPN to be used overseas. Super easy to setup and I can even share my Hulu/Netflix with friends as such :p

Yep, as recommended by Wohouboy you can set up a PPTP or OpenVPN VPN on your Asus router if you have one.

Then you can remote home with your iPhone or Android phone and watch Netflix from anywhere :)

And if your Asus router CPU is limiting the experience of your friends connecting remotely, ask them to sign up for VQ and collect your referral credit ;)

Heya, checked for you riaos; yes, it can be done, but both numbers need to be either both IDD-enabled or both-non-IDD.

i.e. both numbers in 3xxxxxxx range, or both numbers in 6xxxxxxx range.

So far we can't have a mix of non-IDD and IDD range on the same Zhone unit due to Zhone software limitation.

If you’re interested to sign up for additional OV line, you may call our customer service :) 6723 8100 option 1.

100% would like to purchase the Asus RT-AC68U for top up of $249 after my 3 months promo.

I'm not familiar with OpenVPN, is this something free? Would appreciate if someone can provide a little guidance on how to set this up. I would be so happy to watch Netflix outside my home.

Another thing is that this VPN doesn't really bypass all MDA blocked sites (you know some XXX sites) :s13: not that it matter but is that normal?

OpenVPN is just a protocol for connecting to VPN service like PPTP or L2TP. You need to signup a 3rd party service provide in order to connect to their VPN servers.

Licensed operators here are required to block the MDA sites. International VPNs MAY be able to circumvent them but I would think it's illegal, i.e. your own daiji if the MIW come looking for you…

i.e. can we not discuss this here - you can try but don’t tell us can already ;)

Freedom VPN does not circumvent the MDA blocked sites as it’s operated by VQ, which has to abide by the terms of the operator license from the authorities.

As for router-based VPN, PPTP is built into iOS which is why I used PPTP, but OpenVPN app is also straightforward to configure.
