does vq need to update on their end whenever i change port forwarding rules on the zhone?

Don't need. You might want to check your PC settings itself as well, eg has your PC IP address changed since when NOC helped you create the port forward.

i've checked, doesn't seem like i overlooked anything else

i've set the ip address of the PC to static, updated zhone to port forward to that static ip address

I have the same problem. Thought it was my ipv6 configuration. However ipv6-test.com works and some of the mirrors for test-ipv6.com work too

Issue with customer support

I have been a ViewQwest customer for quite a while now, and today I called up the tech support because I was getting a very slow connection last night, and this morning, I can't connect at all. So before I left for work, I checked the unit, cables, and restarted the unit a few times.

I then called up tech support, and reported my issue, and according to them, they are unable to detect my unit. However, they will not dispatch a tech to my house until they have done some basic troubleshooting. I told him I am not at home, but he said he can't send a tech unless I complete the troubleshooting. So I asked him what are the steps in the troubleshooting. He mentioned if the cables are ok. I said yes, I checked them this morning, and I could connect to the unit itself, so the cables must be good. He then stopped and said there is no way I can verify that if I am not at home. To make the story short, he refused to troubleshoot anymore, and told me there is nothing that can be done. When I asked to speak to the manager, he said I need to wait for a call back, usually between 24 - 48 hours.

I cannot imagine this is the level of support I am getting from ViewQwest, and that they expect us to be happy with a callback after 24 - 48 hours, and that I am to be without internet access for a few more days after. I thought we are paying for a premium service here, but the support I am receiving are below standard. I hope someone from ViewQwest will be able to look into this, and correct it from within.

Physical troubleshooting with the fiber patch cord has to be done as well. The staff could certainly have explained it better.

Do PM me the case number and I'll remind the staff involved to be more cooperative.

But please take note that physical troubleshooting of the fiber patch cord and possibly an optical line reading from the Zhone must be taken first.

OpenNet charges a significant amount of money for activating them when fault lies on RSP/customer equipment thus it is not a practice of local RSPs to create activation tickets to OpenNet directly without first doing physical checks including an on-site.

Hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Will check on the unreachable address.

As for the inability to look up records on pure IPv6 root domains (non-dual-stack) it's by design as the main DNS cache is still IPv4, though it should be brought to full dual stack sometime on the roadmap.

i've checked, doesn't seem like i overlooked anything else

i've set the ip address of the PC to static, updated zhone to port forward to that static ip address
Are you on Mac OS? You can try the following steps:

1. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
2. Type the following command, followed by Enter key:
Code:
telnet localhost <forwarded port>
3. You should see something similar to the following if the port on your computer is open:
Code:
macbook:~ andrew$ telnet localhost 44822
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.

If it is stuck at "Trying 127.0.0.1..." then it means your software is not listening on the port.

Should have leh, if not they will call the contact on file. You can always email CS@vq to get them to update the contact details to your email and phone number if that's more convenient for you.

Anyway your appointment is confirmed liao :D

nope, i'm on windows
but the "PC" i'm trying to do port forwarding is a synology NAS, for vpn server

what i did was:
1) the NAS is set to static ip e.g. 192.168.1.99
2) set port forwarding rules on NAS
3) set port forwarding rules on zhone, pointing to private ip 192.168.1.99

VQ NOC updated firmware of my zhone this morning
tried with portcheckers in office and wasn't working, i'll try to restart the NAS later when i get back home

You can do the same thing on Windows (telnet check), however you need to go to Programs and Features > Add/remove Windows features > select Telnet client.

Eh anyway you should not need to port forward on the NAS itself :S was the port forward working before the firmware upgrade?

nope

it was working much earlier when NOC 1st toggled the firewall setting on my zhone, think it was around 24 june.
then i remembered my NAS was still on dynamic ip, then i proceeded to set static ip, change the port forward private ip on zhone, can't remember if i tested it out after making the changes until i tested it yesterday.
