So it's not affecting non-iOS AC devices?

Actually it does affect other devices . Like my Samsung tv has the exact same issue, but we seem to use iOS devices more or what I should say is more IOS people come on here to complain about it, it seems..

I have updates here... now using Merlin 376.48 .

1) Normal usage non of the device will DC @ 5Ghz

2) Sleep Mode - Andriod phone S5/N2/N3/AscendMate all will DC after a while.

3) Sleep Mode - IPhone 5S stay connected for the past 14 hours.

To counter the 5Ghz drop issue, I install a apps in Android phone ( Connection Stabliszer) so that even screen off... it will ping at a interval ...and stay connected.. so far my Ascend Mate7 stay connected for 4 hours .....

Those which DC, are they AC or N?

I currently have 2 devices that can support 5 GHz. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 got no issue with any FW while the iPhone 6 Plus can only work properly with 2769.

Ascend Mate7 stay connected for 7 hours ..... ... I think the apps manage to stay the phone connected ..........:D

I don't feel like retyping all this so I am going to link it, but I found something, I thought it was a fluke but now I know because others are having the same issue with multiple 87's also, it very well may be a driver from either company or ??

Read This

but the bottom line is either we are not waiting 15+ minutes with power off or its justs inherit in the firmware (drivers form the 2 companies that make the chips for this, either one or both).
I went back to dd-wrt yesterday, only doing one reboot, NO POWER cycles at all and I am up 15 hours with absolutely no issues at all.

EDIT:
The only way to fix whatever problem you are having is to flush (restore factory defaults and WPS reset) the router and reload all your settings.

Ok, will try your method tonight with 378.50.

The ASUS firmware always got something which doesn't run well. On 3.0.0.4.376.2769, IPv6 is not working. On 3.0.0.4.378.3885, VPN Server doesn't start when reboot. :s22:

I am up perfectly running for 30 hours now on dd-wrt (no iOS problems, loss of 5GHz, anything that I am running), I hope merlins works for you but it is asus firmware base. Certainly worth a try .
Best of luck

What other router have high tx power like Asus ??

Maybe N66U, AC66U or AC68U using john9527 fork of Rmerlin's FW.
Base on older FW .374.43 driver, the tx power can be adjusted to not exceeding 200mW. I'm using the FW with N66U and it has been great.

Some initial comments pertaining to the AC3200.

Seems like Asus cannot get their new wireless products correct when launched.

FWIW, I have rested back to factory default and reconfigured everything last night. Seems to be better now with no dropouts on my MBP or iPhone. I am using .50 of Merlin’s.

Those like Dlink / Linksys /Netgear .... all power low right?

I think the h/w are capable of producing high power and range.
But I think because of some US rules, most, if not all manufacturers of new wireless routers has to comply due to the larger US market of sales.
Therefore will have to limit their new generations router as there as well as their older router with firmware to cripple its wireless range to be 'within standards'.
That could be one of the reason why there are enthusiast willing to spend time to Fork Firmware eg. RMerlin, DDWRT, john9527, hggomes etc.

So by the time a router's fw is stable enough, most likely a more newer models has been launch and most probably making you to swing and wanting to purchase it with all the 'wow and new' features.

How about the one below?:D:D
