I always thought Shukey or Masterfix was quite reputable.

But my latest experience at Suntec Shukey had much better workmanship than Masterfix at Seletar Mall.

Lower prices and faster turnaround times work in Shukeys favour too.

Just curious and sua ku because never do before, and surely each branches have different cobblers (might have different skill level I guess?).

Kips $ kwik 45 mins. 2 types Vibram. I chose thinner one because it's softer and flexible.

Ok that's great!
How's the finishing and price?

It's just sticking a piece of rubber on your shoes. Fretting about workmanship is splitting hairs.. Unless the fella who does it for you is spectacularly inept .

Cost and convenience should be the biggest concern.

I did my vibram from minister mint and the guy comment better to do it when the shoe is new. Coz now the sole may be expose to water oil etc, he cannot be sure if leather sole will last. I have seen ppl vibram at new and some wear to break in before vibram. So which grp u belong to?

Selling Allen Edmonds

Hi guys,

I have an Allen Edmonds Park Avenue (US size 10EEE) for sale. I would say it would suit sizes 10.5 and 11 too. Sole is rubber for SG climate. It is not often used but well maintained. I would recommend it to be a spare shoe to alternatively switch out with other shoes so that your shoe's longevity is maximized.

If you are interested, PM me to exchange contact. I have pictures and you are welcome to try if it fits and have a look at the condition.

Your mister minit guy referring to Goodyear welt shoes? It's a personal choice but a pretty stupid one if you chose not to break in your shoes... Also, the shoes aren't really that delicate either..

Probably de-lamination within the sole/shank/cork/gemming layer. If you have pics or even better, a video. I'm sure you'll be able to make DWFII very happy on SF :s13:

What brand are the shoes btw?

not on SF so I won't know, but why happy?

I've got the same issue on both pairs actually - entry level loakes, bought locally. Perchance the retailer kept them for a long while before I bought them.

Any remedies?

Also, on a side note, does anyone know if Ed et Al has a model that's quite broad? Previously thought of trying out meermin, but seeing the negative experiences here has made me think twice. Not sure I want to make the jump to the next category of shoes yet too.:)

You can ask for their shoes to be made in wider widths. There'll be a small upcharge for that.

If those were entry level loakes i think you'll do fine with the 1880 range from them if you are looking for something better. 1880s a re significantly better.

Local retailer for loakes meaning Robinson's?

Just an old (but highly experienced/skilled) geezer who always makes it a point to call out the shortcut in manufacturing that is the modern Goodyear welt process :s13:

Whats wrong with Meermin though? Other than the comms which may be iffy at times, their products are pretty much value for money.

tbh when we point out stuff like, stitching, finishing issues etc, they're really minor cosmetic issues. Typical First World problem stuff. :s13:

My pair of meermins still serving me fine

I've Vibram'ed my shoes at different stages of wear. Brand new, lightly worn, extremely worn.

My opinion: no difference.

Think I might have read something from him before.. but ages back.. something to do with the gemming and stuff.

He continues to make hand-welt shoes I believe? In between his SF grumblings :s13:

I typically get mine done lightly worn.. I don't buy the proposition to vibram 'em brand new simply because the application process actually involves 'roughening' the soles (e.g. through sanding down)!

Yeah.

In any case, they're not Riedel crystal wine glasses. The Vibram sole protectors stay put (most times when someone who has experience applies them) and serve their purpose regardless of when they're applied on to the shoes.

They're just shoes at the end of the day. No need spend too much time thinking about them, haha...

If everyone adopted that mentality there wouldn't be this thread!

You don't find a difference when breaking a new shoe in with and without sole protectors?

Hahaha yes. he is the great enabler that sparked off the whole Gemming debate :s13::s13::s13:

Yea he does, though he is more or less retired at 60+ (iirc). He's work is good! Even Thundermarch shushu approves :s13:
