Hi all,
I have been thinking about buying a kindle to read books but I'm considering between a tablet and kindle.

My main purpose is to read ebooks and PDF files
Reading manga would be good as well
With all that in mind, would it be reasonable to buy a kindle paperwhite second hand or should I stick with a tablet since it's more versatile?
Tablet cos u wanna read manga. Pdf for kindle needs to convert

actually kindle can open pdf file but it is a horrible experience...I still like to read manga, comics and pdf on my ipad and storybooks on my kindle...I must say if anyone wants to buy a tablet for reading, it is better on an ipad than an android tablet...Simply because ibooks is a good app and android does not have any comparable app...

I also agree it's horrible to read pdf on paperwhite. The words are too tiny, and zooming in/out and loading a page is so slow you want to pull your hair out.

I guess I'll give up on the kindle for now and stick with tablets haha
Wanted to get one to read PDFs more than ebooks
I really like the e-ink technology but the refresh is slow and format is a mess
Thanks for the replies!

I think anyone who like to read books should have a e-reader. Because it's lightweight and has long battery life, most important you will not end up reading emails, web surfing and playing games. It help you to get away from your work and stress and into the story that you are reading.

But for PDF reading and comic reading, better to use a 8' above tablet, else you miss the colours and ease of zooming. I am currently leading a happy life, mainly using my 10.5 tablet and kindle pw1.

I actually hope they can bring back the e-reader w audio and 9.7 e-reader, new and lighter version. I wish to read on 9.7 e-ink screen.

Yeah, bring back kindle deluxe with 9.7 inch screen. I'd even settle for an 8 inch paperwhite. 8 inch is quite portable, and is closer to a paperback size. Most people carry their 8 inch tablets around anyway. Why Amazon is stuck with a tiny 6 incher, I'll never know.

Yeah, agree with every single word. High Five^

It could be previously they overpriced their deluxe, i remember checking it out many years back but skipped bcos. of the price. About time they come out with a bigger, slimmer, glowlight kindle at USD139 etc. Do you know, now they still selling their deluxe at USD299.

Have anyone tried falling asleep while reading a tablet on your bed, i tried and it hit my face really hard. My kindle never ever hit me before. i believe an 9.7 kindle will not kill me too but i afraid my ultra slim tablet will one of these days.

Please dun give me a new kindle with 414ppi, provided they make the black ink blink. They can also consider a pocket kindle 4.7 inch etc. like the kobo mini, so cute, i can put into my pocket. Either bigger or smaller, i used to read news on 4' ip4, i think i can read on 4.7 e-ink w battery life that last up to 6 months.

I'll never understand what amazon boss has against asia/singapore, after N years still disallow direct shipping to Sg, dun they to expand to new markets?

Actually amazon would love to sell everywhere, just that they probably can't due to 'contractual obligations'. But they try to close one eye when they can.

Is it worth getting vpn just for bigger access to the US market in Amazon?

Am considering. Haven't bought anything.

Yeah...I have the same question too. Anyone?

Personally, I always use the US site since it has a larger selection, and since I subscribe to a vpn service anyway. Not really sure if it's worth it for everyone as we may be buying different books. Why not take a look at vpn services where you pay by bandwidth instead of by month?

um, if ur purpose is just for buying reading materials once in a while.
why not just use Tunnelbear? their free account provides 500mb of data every month.
tweet them and there'll be a bandwidth boost. that is suffice for just browsing and purchasing reading materials.

You will probably want to buy from amazon itself. Sometimes, they do have sale on their Kindles. However, Amazon cannot ship kindle directly to Singapore, hence you will need a shipper like Borderlinx or Vpost.

You can read the following step by step review guide as well
