My pixel2XL in a Google Fabric case for P3XL.

Is the alignment slightly off for the camera and fingerprint sensor or photo angle problem?

Same here. I don't understand the need for dual front facing speaker. While in public, most people are on their earphones. And anyone in a civilized environment would frown upon those who blast on their phone speakers. While at home, maybe the speakers are useful, but then again, if you want better sound quality, earphones are the way to go. You always hear more with earphones than your phone speakers.

I feel Google dropped the ball here with their design trade-offs. None of the well received phones give a **** about dual front speaker. It's for pathetic youtube reviewer to pick on.

Agree. Cannot stand a certain group of people who play music on public transport especially when in groups.

Also cannot stand iphone users who blast their music through that apple earphones. Because apple earphones not in-ear kind, when that group of users blast music, few seats away also can hear :s22:

Front firing speakers if google wants to do it, at least do it properly. Its still lacking honestly.

Is having the "fingerprint sensor is dirty during the setup stage and occasionally during the unlocking stage, normal?

These are good points. However today I watched a video saying Pixel 3 is designed for the average user (not techies) and I agree with it.

TBH the front facing speaker works very well for me in several situations. One example is when I'm in a car, I can ask Google Assistant to play a song to keep my kid entertained without having to connect to the car's bluetooth audio system. The sound quality is much better than my iPhone (plus Siri sucks).

I guess during the design stage Google decided to go with functionalities that satisfy the majority of the users. I guess the speakers is what most users chose to keep.

I completely agree with you. The speakers definitely are a necessity, I'm not arguing that. I watch YouTube on my phone at home all the time, and no wall in hell would I use earphones for that :)

My point is that Google uses the excuse of having dual front speakers to justify the large chin (the notch is more because of the cameras). Given the "standards" of late 2018 phone designs, and the size of the chin, 3 XL better sound effing amazing.

That's not at all the case. Far from it.

There lies my complaint. What did I get for this chin on my 3 XL?

Don't get me wrong, I love the 3 XL (because I'm biased. I love Android and pure Google devices). It just feels better than my 2 XL. But I hope Google steps up. It's 2 years and therefore 2 cycles since they bought the HTC team. I have hopes they have enough time to really start pushing the envelope on hardware too like they do on software.

P.S. I'm replying not to argue with you but to clarify my points :)

no not normal.. clean, redo setup imprint.
It's new. Should be clean. Anyway I tried cleaning and I'm still getting the fingerprint sensor is dirty sometimes. It happens more frequently with one finger. Strange.. Anyone encountering this issue?

Actually I wonder if anyone really buys a Pixel phone because of its front-firing speakers. The Pixel 3's speakers are definitely better (or should I say, louder) than Pixel 2's. But it still feels comparable to the iPhone XS'. In fact, the iPhone XS' speakers sound just a little bit better to my untrained ears. And the iPhone XS' doesn't even have front-firing speakers!

That said, I don't mind the chin at all. Without the chin, it would be very difficult to reach the navigation bar without contorting your thumb too much when using it with one hand.

I understand. :) Everybody sees things differently. I love my 3 non-XL too. Luckily I don't face any of the issues reported yet.

My guess is in the next iteration of Pixel, we are going to lose yet another feature. Most likely the speakers for the edge-to-edge screen.

Shld be cos the next iteration shld be from the ex-HTC design team. Most likely we will see something like what Apple/Samsung is doing for the speakers. If we are lucky, maybe Google might throw in a boombox feature like on LG.

I understand.

Pixel 3 XL owners did you guys notice any "darken colour" on white background where the notch/status bar resides? Something like a burn in.

i second this also. Last year they say Pixel 2/XL bigger top and bezels to house the front facing speakers, but the speaker doesn't even sound as good as phones from Huawei or the iPhone X. Which are just using the call speaker and bottom speaker to create a stereo-like effect.

This year it sounds better, but still doesn't sound as good to me as the newer iPhones, which improves the call speaker volume even more. It's closer now, but.... considering it takes up so much room on the front, i was expecting it to be significantly better.
