so far it's never been heard of anyone not renewing REP
TS can email ICA to clarify :s8: :s8:

Why not? It's not uncommon. If you can't get your passport renew in time, you can't renew your rep. I rem a while back, many Malaysians having difficulties renewing their passports so many can't renew their rep before expiration.

No rep, as long as dun leave sg, spr still valid. Just have to renew rep later.

It's only more difficult now but still getting PR revoked is much harder
I already have friends that got REP not renewed because company send them overseas for secondment. Suay suay that 2 years was just before REP expiry. Then write in to ICA ICA give only 1 year extension but the project he working on won’t be finish in 1 more year.

That's due to being away from sg too long. PR = permanent resident, stay away so long, how to expect to get rep renew easily?

ICA said must renew REP before expiry otherwise cut off means SPR also cut off effectively.

This is nonsense!

Permanent Residence is forever unless you leave without valid REP or Govt kick you out.

Dunno why many Singaporean dunno the laws of the land

Had a friend.REP renewal reject , maybe coz out of work, anyway he eventually get a new job then after a couple of years apply renewal and he get approved.

Every single case is taken on merit , no matter how similar they are they are treated independently.

App Time!!!

Pls remember these are the people who will vote for their representatives that make laws ..

Same people who complains why PRs can remain as PR for so long without converting are the same people who has no clue what is difference between PR and REP are the same people who votes in the representatives to make these possible...

Not happy about aliens but keep paying the security guard that just open the gate and go to sleep ...

Whose fault ? Aliens ? Security guard ?

You're confusing PR and REP

I know REP is different than PR, but in all practical sense it means that PR is effectively for 5 years only. A colleague of mine was posted to US, his REP wasn’t renewed and then ultimately PR also got revoked. Basically PR without REP has not much use…

See the post above by @Ubi-Warrior

Then pls explain how his friend got REP rejected at first , can stay here as PR with REP invalid and then find job then REP got renew again.

If working overseas then what's the point of a resident permit ?

SG PR is a permit to stay in SG , work and pay tax , cpf ... if your friend posted to US then what's the use of PR in SG since he isn't staying or working or living here anymore ?
