sigh... read through this whole chunk of information provided by forummers.. saw a lot of recommendation for the so called star lecturer sami... and i excitedly registered for his f7 class but now.. i'm only left with disappointment.. think I'll stay with kaplan the next sem.. wonder why he is even recommended.... :o

boxie i am rather curious why u think sami is not good. to be completely honest i have attended both roy and sami's lessons before and both are cosidered to be exceptional lecturers but in my opinion if sami teaches that particualr subject, always go to his, his method is very exam focus and he never fails to summarise each FRS in the most understandable manner. This is what is lacking in other lecturers including Roy. I ever approached Roy to address some queries but he often never explain things very clearly, not as much as sami in my opinion. Which by the way, every paper that i took with sami i passed. i took f7 first time with roy and i fail the second time i went back to sami and i pass. so is my p2, sami spotted SFP to come out but SCI came out instead but i still passed the exam as sami adequately prepare all the students already.

which by the way ACCA is a course where it would be wise to be follow the lecturer than the school. i am speaking from experience, i tried to be school loyal by sticking with kaplan and it cause me a couple of failures when i got stuck with some mediocre lecturers which i regret immensely.

There is a reason why some lecturers are strongly recommended while some are not. students should be diligent to do their research and also to ask around prior enrolling into the subject and school.

I am a part time student and i took sami's lesson for F9 and P2. Frankly speaking, P2 has a lot of FRS to cover, it is impossible to teach everything in details becoz we only got that limited amount of time for lessons and revision.

I personally like his style becoz he is exam focus and summarises the impt points pretty well. I think his lecture timetable is quite packed (since he teaches a few subjects), and quite a no. of students also email him to ask abt Qs and stuff. Follow his notes and revise adequately, you will gradually have confidence for P2 :)

Hi! Thank u for your kind advice. I will work hard for P2. :)

Then I will also take P6 by Tommy.
Thanks for ur advises. My girlfriend and I took F6 with Yvonne at Kaplan before but found her alittle too fast to catch. Will try tommy this time.
I stayed at woodlands. So Kaplan will be more convenient for me. But is it true that Kaplan will be shifting out of orchard area?
I took Tommy last sem. Not very exam focus. Yvonne is much better. Although she is fast but her explanation is rock solid. Tommy did went through some questions but he sometimes placed emphasis on the questions which i feel is too basic to be tested for exams. That is to say, he is ok in setting down the foundation but he isn't good in the application.

Hi there! I am not sure how to reply this but I have attended Sami's F7 just for closing knowledge gap of prep for my P2 this term. In my opinion, his F7 lessons are good enuff for exams. He has good track records.

Consequently, I am attending his P2 now. Honestly, I am kind of...feeling not very confident, because P2 needs to be so thereotically written, seeing a huge problem now. However, i think it is not his fault, we have to practise questions but too bad he never offer to mark. : (

Frankly, I don't know who else to go to beside Sami for P2. No fish, shrimp also good right? : (
I took Sami's P2 normal and revision class. Stark difference. In his normal class, it's just the basic thing like giving you some questions to calculate on things like eg IFRS9, FRS32, FRS39, FRS37, FRS19, FRS102, FRS12, plus some consol and cash flow. Theory wise, he just touch and go. However when you go for his revision class, he will drill you on the theory based on the above FRS. In short, he will do alot of past year theory exam questions for his revision class and do alot of past year exam questions that involve calculation in his normal class.

Tommy is ok. His teaching method n lecture note is quite similar to Yvonne's one. He also uses hand written note/flow chart like Yvonne does.
But Yvonne has a upper hand due to her experience. She is more exam focus than Tommy. Although Tommy has good hand written notes but it's of not much use if we can't apply. His explanation is not as in depth as Yvonne i feel. Take for example the Productivity and Innovation Credit scheme (PIC). Tommy will just read from the notes and then gave some examples and so on. Yvonne will go and explain that the combined amount for YA11&12 are $800k for enhanced deductions and if the co is incorporated in YA12, the qualifying cap is $400k. So if you take Tommy's class, you will think that if the Co is incorporated in YA12 and has an expenditure of $500k, then this sum will be the qualifying amount because he didn't explain clearly... If just conduct a lecture just by reading from the notes without enhancing the points with examples, then i might as well stay at home to self study...

Diploma in Acc must be from local polytechnics/accredited via UK ACCA (ICPAS can verify this for you) affiliated qualifications. You will then be exempted from the first 3 knowledge modules, a.k.a F1-F3.

Degree in accounting has to be recognized by ACCA as well, and judging from the type of accounting courses provided by the various recognized universities, the exemptions(most commonly) are from 5 papers to 9 papers. NTU/NUS accounting degrees have the exemption of the first 9 papers, F1-F9 and graduates of those degrees can start from the professional modules after ACCA has successfully identified and authorized the relevant topics that can be exempted for the ACCA exams.

Due to certain content taken out/into context and accounting content taught and tested within ACCA scope of exams are always being altered, the exemptions on qualification list is always constantly being revised.

I note that this intake has seen a number of comments about specific tutors not being liked/favoured by students. For the benefit of all the students on this forum, some thoughts:

- everyone learns in different ways, and what is good for some will not work for others. Only way to find out is probably to suck it and see. Try to attend open evenings, or any freebie sessions, or ask fellow students - but if a tutor has got packed classrooms then I suspect they are probably doing something right!

- as with all internet forums, please bear in mind that schools "place" people on here to spread their messages. Bear this in mind when reading anti-tutor posts, as there is always a risk that it is not a real student. Try to get feedback from your own friends offline, as the advice of strangers can sometimes be dangerous.

For the record (and for "transparency", just to please P1 students), my name is Paul and I am a tutor at LSBF - so do not bother asking me for views on specific tutors/schools as I clearly have major self-interest and advocacy threats to my independence!

But if you want factual information, feel free to ask.

tax associate

Anyone mind to share with me what is the job scope of tax associates? Do GST report? So how about the job scope being a tax associate in big 4? Are they doing tax audit? or they are doing the GST report too? And, will they have the opportunities to work overseas like audit assistants?

you did? those T1 T2 usually 100.

Nope, I did an online demo for the newer syllabus and got 90% without studying fully...erms.. I mean I could actually correct the MCQ till I get the marks? Wow, is it so good? Why do ppl would want to take the paper based then?

Or did I actually make the mistake and even though I went to correct it, they didn't count in my marks?
