I know this question has been answered a lot of times.....

But I just want to know, is it worth it to study this degree in SG? does it really increase employability?

As in, I know it is good to have a degree but in terms of recognition, can I secure an entry level job with it?

Would appreciate it if anyone can give me a reply

ACCA is a qualification to be a certified accountant, and not a degree. Whether you can secure a job depends on many other factors such as age, competency and experience. You will need 2-4 years to complete the qualicication and an additional 3 years of working exp to be a member of ACCA.

I feel that you should go for singapore accountancy programmes and take the SQP instead due to the new arrangements.

Accounting you should think carefully.. Low pay long hours. (Vs banks I mean)

ACCA will definitely be useful to get a job, but the "pecking order" (usually and in general) is big 4 to "local uni" then left v little positions in big 4 for other qualifications. The rest generally work is big (a number bigger than 4)

ACCA is a type of professional qualification, not a degree.
Based on current arrangements locally, best to pursue SQP for professional accountancy qualifications.

The hiring process is complex, based on only degree recognition will not secure you a job, it involves many factors taken into consideration.

Sorry what I meant is the Oxford Brookes degree in applied accounting, the degree which you can get after submitting a report and completing F1 to F9.

Can the Oxford Brookes degree get me at least an entry level job with me having no experience? Or at least does it have some value/employability in the market now?

Yes, but you'd be "benchmarked" more by how many acca papers you have completed

My current highest is A levels, I am doing Acca full time, at this moment it is difficult for me to go about to pursue a 3 year degree just to enter sqp. I would rather wait for the new agreement that would be announced soon about how acca can enter sqp.

In terms of job prospects I know it depends on a lot of factors but I am hoping that once I completed acca or at least this degree I could at least get a job as an executive ? I mean that's what I meant by entry level. Not too sure how it is like in the market now so I would like to know a little before going for this Oxford Brookes degree

Went for 5 interviews and got offered by 3 of them for audit position. They range from 2.4 to 2.6 (Considering the economy now). I m currently in a what ppl consider mid-tier firm as an associate. I see my colleagues worked for 2-3 years and some are struggling with the CPA Australia/ACCA etc.

However i feel that exp is a lot lot more important than qualification in the industry. Perhaps those who wanna go for ACCA should wait til end of year to see what ISCA can offer for ACCA grads.

me also just cleared all papers in july and have difficulty getting any interviews But my expected salary is 3k with 2 years experience in finance analysis

I think if you have read the later posts of this thread, some may argue that this BSc is not recognised in Singapore. As it only requires you to do a project on top of your F1-F9 papers, I doubt it will make a significant difference in employability opportunities.

However, you can check out the Msc in Professional Accounting offered by UOL and ACCA that will grant you both acca and uol master simultaneously.

I feel that in this point of time, you should complete your acca (since you alr started on it). Do not worry about the sqp as the new arrangements have yet to be released anyway.

Really meh.... It does make me feel better a little, though it does not change fact that I'm jobless

I have read those posts but actually I wanted to know from anyone that has completed the Bsc and used it in their resumes and get a job. I mean, if this Bsc can get me a job then to me it has value in obtaining it.

both are recognized globally, and have membership bodies in many countries to support you where you go.

For aspiring accountants, depending on which country to practice in, it is important to take note of the entry requirements for attaining chartered accountant designation of that country and admission into the respective countries' national accountancy body.

And having a relevant degree and/or approved professional accountancy qualification (eg. SAC's SQP, ICAEW's ACA, CA ANZ's CA, etc) for exemptions will definitely speed up the process of attaining chartered accountant designation of that country and subsequently admit into respective national accountancy body.
