ACCA Students.

Hi all,

I have taken F1 (exempted), F2, F3, F5 and F6 and intend to take F7 and F8 this coming semester. Is it advisable? Any prequisite issue I should be aware of?

Just realised that F7 and F8 are dependent on F4. So I should take F4 first.

Probably taking F4 + F9.

Or do you mean there'r different lecturers who taught same modules in the same school?

He's saying that you should check for the best lecturer for each module. If you are taking two modules and the best lecturer for each module is from different school, then enrol in both schools.

From the few courses I have attended, I find Kaplan much better in terms of notes (better organised and higher quality). But maybe it's specific to the lecturer. Or far F2 and F3 notes from SAA looks like they are hurriedly assembled from multiple sources and F6 notes from SAA looks like 90s type of notes (e.g. paragraphs of text where sometimes tabulated comparison would actually make things clearer).

F4 has nothing to do with F7. Not dependent on each other.

If you want to sign up for ACCA, there is a list of things you will need to do. You can read it up on Kaplan's web or SAA's. Basically:-

1) Register with ACCA & ICPAS

2) Then choose which module you want to take for this July.

3) Choose lecturers, not school. Meaning, maybe I like Sami for F7, he's from Kaplan, and I like Mr Chee for F8, he's from SAA, then either choose to take them on at separate school, or plan it another way like, maybe I can take F6 (yvonne) & F7 at Kaplan first, then next sem, then I take F8 and F5 at SAA. Something like this.

4) Each school now requires you to buy their student protection insurance thingy. which cost $25 (before GST), valid for one year. So plan your modules carefully.

5) Exam fees is separate.

6) Annual professional fee payable to ACCA & ICPAS.

it actually depends on your employer in my opinion. i have yet to meet an employer who ask for the transcripts, they usually only ask for certificates.

or if you are currently working in an accounting firm and need to take exam leave for your acca exam, they prolly need you to produce evidence that you pass your exam, in that case, results will be seen as acca, the only paper evidence is the result slip with states pass/fail plus results.

anyway, the ACCA syllabus will be undergoing changes. For F1 to F3, no longer will have MCQs, but short-question answers type i think, wef December 2011. So if anyone is interested to take up ACCA, better register now to clear the first 3 modules first.

My plan is every half year, I take 1 paper and try to pass the paper. (I am not in a hurry to get this qualification as I just took it for backup purpose.)

1 sem a paper is a very comfortable option. 2 may be too much depending on your accounting foundations. You can buy kaplan texts off their shelves at starhub building (cuppage road), but they are very expensive S$80 per textbook and $40 per revision kit. Kaplan's text is very concise and written in a very layman style, so its easy to understand. If you are disciplined, 1 hour a day should suffice. It's usually a bit harder than the exams you'll find in a local university.
