confusedQ: F4: take kweh lesson for normal classes, and if you need the revision class, take another lecturer revision class.

tvbusy: take helena if u want something more standard. take nicholas if u like to copy things that are written down already and love to hear a mixture language, heard some very arragont and unfounded basis words like "garanteed" and "sure" which just come out so casually...

hmm option papers have similar passing rates so i suggest to choose those you either have a flare for or options that can help in your future work.

for me i picked p4 p7. it's the most common mix if im not wrong

for people who wants to go with kaplan, here is my first hand encounter with the lecturers for all the papers.

F1= Yuen Yuen, she is very humorous and her teaching style is easy to understand.

F2= During my time it was Yuen Yuen, but she is not very good with costing paper. When i took the revision with Yvonne Goh she is really really good. Go with Mary Tan if you are doing part time.

F3= Go for Nicholas Woo. He is very clear and concise in his explanation.

F4= I took Terence Tan during my time. He is a bit messy in his notes, but well I passed the first time. I heard Kweh Soon Han is good in this subject.

F5= Saminathan is the man. If there is any subject that is taught by Sami always always always always go for him. He is very exam oriented and I have nothing bad to say about him, except for his very short 5 minutes break. But if you are a part-timer go for Roy Goh (Sami don't take part time for this subject)

F6= Yvonne Goh. She is great.. Her handwritten notes are very neat and she is very clear in explanation she is also very helpful when you approach her for help.

F7= Saminathan again. His consolidation method is very clear and he uses a method that is very time saving and of course he is very exam focus. If not go for Roy Goh. The only problem I have with Roy is, his explanation is not always very clear. At times I wonder even if he knows what he is talking about.

F8= Nicholas Woo. I took his Audit class a few semester ago. He is very detailed when he explain a theory and he uses alot of 'real life' examples which make it easier to understand difficult audit concepts. He is also very humorous and approachable.

F9= Saminathan. I have nothing but good things to say about him. Take his lesson and your chances to pass is higher.

P1= I took Roy Goh during my time. He is very organised and he practice a lot of past year questions. But he is no longer taking the paper. Go for Dominic. I took his revision class and he is very good and knowledgable.

P2= Saminathan, if not for him, I think I might fail. This is a very tough paper and he is the best lecturer in my opinion that make the subject very understandable.

P3= Dominic. Even though I don't really like him in general, but he is good in the subject.

P4= Not taking the subject, but I can safely say, go with Saminathan.

P5= Roy Goh. He is very detailed in his calculations and he is quite clear in his explanation and also he is very friendly and approachable.

P6= Yvonne Goh. But unfotunately she is not teaching this subject this coming Jan and I really dunno who to recommend.

P7= Honestly I am not sure who is good in this subject. Connie is no longer with Kaplan and currently no one else seems to be replacing her.

Singapore to have own accountancy qualification

Singapore to have own accountancy qualification

By Jonathan Peeris
Posted: 02 November 2010 2115 hrs

SINGAPORE : Singapore's accountancy industry will soon have its own post-university professional accountancy qualification - just like the CPA in Australia.

This will help Singapore a leading global accountancy hub in Asia Pacific by 2020.

The Pro-Tem Singapore Accountancy Council is currently developing the programme with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS).

Announcing the qualification at a conference on Tuesday, Second Finance Minister Lim Hwee Hua said accountancy professionals here and in the region will have an avenue to develop their careers by obtaining credentials that are globally recognised.

She said: "The objective is to develop accounting professionals who are not just deep problem solvers in the core area of accountancy. We also want our accountancy professionals to be equipped with the skills to interact with other specialists and understand technical issues from a wide range of disciplines and functional areas."

The two bodies are also consulting with accounting bodies in the UK, Australia and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants to develop the programme.

The certification will also be open to graduates from non-accountancy backgrounds and foreign students.

Separately, the council is also looking into niche areas for accountants here to specialise in.

"We've already formed a committee to look at the different specialisation pathways in terms of risk management, for instance, development of CFOs (Chief Financial Officers), internal audit, valuation, taxation. These will be the specialisation, so called qualifications, that we can look at," said Bobby Chin, chairman of Pro-Tem Singapore Accountancy Council.

Other areas of specialisation such as management accounting or forensic accounting may be introduced later.

F1-F3 should be relatively easy since exam format is MCQ. Can attempt att 3 at one sitting.
