Hi,

i'm a ACCA student currently waiting for my final result. i had already passed all my fundamental papers and P2. i'm trying to get a full-time job now so that i could gain working exp and study part time if i failed any of the remaining papers (P1 P3 P6 P7)

most of the job requirement i see in job street needs relevant working exp and hardly any of them mention ACCA at all >"<

can someone give me some advise as to where to find job and wad position should i be seeking??

Thanks

Wao. Thats cool. Wish you all the best for 21st Feb.

There are some job stated in ICPAS. As for the job your found, nevermind. As look as you see junior or entry position, just apply. At most you waste the time and perhaps the postage fee.
Keep a look out for job seminal especially those held in NUS or NTU.

I have got some feedback this first half of the year is the big 4 audit firm peak period and it may be a bit difficult to get in as they may not have the time to train junior staff. Still, again, if you see opening for entry level, just apply.

The thing is don't be shy. Treat interview as an experience. That what lots of my friend did when they grad, mostly engineer. I was lucky enough then, but now I look back stupid and unlucky enough then, to get into an engineering job after just 1 interview.

Hee. Can PM me if you manage to land a job? I hope to know if company are willing to hire before the result is out.:D

Hi,

Please go to page 138 last post. I have given a detail explanation. About what paper you can or cannot take, it is also applicable to you.

Sorry. I do not have information on CPA. Not at that stage to know the information yet.:D

Can provide such information if you manage to get it?

Anyone know how to make some of the information provided by fellow member to be moved to the top post so that it is for information to be shared with others?

INFORMATION ON ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL ETHICS MODULE

I think there is not need for you to watch the clip or listen to the module. Correct me if I am wrong so that I can update this statement or confirm this statement. The purpose of the video/audio clip is only meant as an introduction I guess. The MCQ is available for you even if you do not login. Thus, I come to the conclusion this is not important.

What is important is that, you need to complete the Ethic Module. You are only provided with this option when you are eligible to do P1. What is eligible is as good as saying when you are allow to register for the exam for P1. Correct me if I am wrong.

Ok, so where to access this module when you are given the option to do so?
Step
  1. Go and login to MyACCA
  2. Go to STUDENT HOME
  3. Scroll to the "MY QUALIFICATION PROGRESS" section
  4. There will be a link available call "Access Professional Ethics module"

Done.

HELLO cereal1 :) still rmb me?

btw, we are exempted from all except F6 if we take UK syllabus (for both F4 and F6)..

but if we are taking SGP syllabus, then its just exemption for all except F6 and F4

*** in short, if taking SGP syllabus, then both F4 F6 must all be SGP syllabus, vice versa. Cannot mix F4(UK, cos got exemption), with F6(SGP)..

for my case, i am doing SGP syllabus cos in future, i gonna be working in SGP, so UK syllabus doesnt really help much.

hope this helps :)

u gonna take P1, P2 and F6?

if yes, u can mix F and P papers, provided out of 9 F papers, 6 F papers have been cleared (including exemptions).. hope this is clearer for u :) for my case, i am taking F4, F6, P1 :)

Ya. It will take a while. Haha... talk about efficiency! Look at the local Uni, usually all these are done pretty fast. :s13:

I see that quite a few of you are exempted from F7. My recommendation would be to try to get books on F7. Most lecturer are quite concern over student that got exemption for F7 when they attend P2. Personally I feel that F7 are very important as the amount of stuff you will need it in P2 is quite a lot.

What student did in F7 is only only touch on the surface of FRS or IFRS then move on. This take about 17 ~20 plus lecture to cover. At P2 you need to know it in more in dept plus other FRS. I believe lecturer for P2 will provide or try to remind student on those that have been covered in F7. But if you are a full time student and have the time, just read thru F7 at a leisure pace.

Although P2 is only 35% calculation, it will be able to help a lot if you can do the calculation. The question would be a consolidation question but other FRS such as Impairment, Financial Instrument, PPE, etc would also be involved in the calculation thus it is better to make sure you know all the treatment.

I've completed F1 - F3 and i'm thinking of self study for F4,F6 & F7 this sem.

From what i gathered, these 3 papers have sg variant. Pls correct me if i'm wrong.

Which publisher textbooks will u guys recommend? And do they have sg variant for the textbooks?

Many thanks.

yup, my FR is really pretty weak. i was thinking of taking up F7 next sem as 'revision' though i am exempted.. then afterwhich, i will take up P2 the next next sem

btw, would like to check with u if P papers are required to be taken in order? for example, need to clear compulsory P papers before options papers? if needed, i gotta drag my options papers dued to my 'F7' revision next sem lol

i think 4,6,7 all have sg variant but for 7 the sg variant is not that important and rather similar to international, just some name changes like FRS.

textbooks are all the same. kaplan or bpp equally good. if u get in sg most likely it is sg variant.

-

it is a good idea to take f7 as revision. but most people who take p2 probably forget most of their f7 stuffs, they will also revise back when needed. if you are not tight no cash then go for classes, otherwise u can read the text.

I notice that many private students took the overseas australia accounting degree at local institute. After working for few years, they took examinable modules and apply for CPA Singapore.

May i know in term of job interview would the companies prefer ACCA holder?

I agree with zuzuvovo. If you have the spare cash then go ahead. Else, you can sign up with another of the school and borrow the book from the library and read at your free time.

As to your question
You must have completed P1~P3 before attending the optional paper.
OR
You are taking the optional paper Together with P1~P3.

So for your case, if you intend to put P2 on hold, you won't be able to attend any of the optional paper. If you have the spare cash, then you can just sign up the exam for P2, this will allow you to sign up the exam for optional paper. There is a negative side to this other then wasting the money. You will be deem to have attended P2 once so if you get any ranking for P2 the next round, you will not get the ranking as they consider you as having attempted it once.:D

I have the same concern as you. I have also asked around. The answer I get is that, Big 4 to hire ACCA grad. I have friend that manage to get into Big 4 when he only attempted < 50% of the paper. However, the case is slightly different. He used his engineering background to get in as a IT Auditor. Basically he do not do FS audit. Mostly on system audit. After a year, he request to be transferred and he got it. I might take this path as well if I can't get in with ACCA. :D

My friend feedback is Big 4 do hire. Chances are better if you have completed all the 14paper.

As for preference, I believe student from NTU and NUS will have a better chance but finally, it is how you perform during the interview. I think number of ACCA grad is only at most.... 1000 per year? Grad from NTU and NUS is like maybe 5 or 6 thousand? So you will properly hear most of grad from those uni getting into the Big 4 but it does not mean you do not stand a chance.

If you have a coy in mind and are unable to get, settle for a lower position and proof yourself in the coy then from there move up the corporate ladder. :)

yeah i still rem u. we chat in SIM-UOL forum last time. hehe... :)

i think i will take SGP syllabus, so i will have to take F4 also. i think i will take F4, F6, P1 and P2 first if possible... 4 papers at 1 go, dunno can make it or not haha

sure why not? if you are those who study consistently. if you know the concepts at your finger tips im sure you can take 4 at one go. provided enough effort is put in. effort varies from person to person

oh okay, i get what u mean

means.. if want to take options paper, gotta be after P1-P3 are cleared OR take together with P1-P3. if i wanna drag P2 but take options paper, then have to pay P2 but dont take exam, but at the same time, able to take the options paper haha

thinking of taking P3 + 1 option paper next sem.. looks like its impossible, unless i include P2. i think is okay, i will just focus on P2 and P3 next sem instead :) i believe i can overcome my fear of FR haha
