I have the same concern as you. I have also asked around. The answer I get is that, Big 4 to hire ACCA grad. I have friend that manage to get into Big 4 when he only attempted < 50% of the paper. However, the case is slightly different. He used his engineering background to get in as a IT Auditor. Basically he do not do FS audit. Mostly on system audit. After a year, he request to be transferred and he got it. I might take this path as well if I can't get in with ACCA. :D

My friend feedback is Big 4 do hire. Chances are better if you have completed all the 14paper.

As for preference, I believe student from NTU and NUS will have a better chance but finally, it is how you perform during the interview. I think number of ACCA grad is only at most.... 1000 per year? Grad from NTU and NUS is like maybe 5 or 6 thousand? So you will properly hear most of grad from those uni getting into the Big 4 but it does not mean you do not stand a chance.

If you have a coy in mind and are unable to get, settle for a lower position and proof yourself in the coy then from there move up the corporate ladder. :)

Thanks for the reply. Actually i was just wondering if there is any difference if i were to study Masters of Accounting and ACCA i mean in term of employment wise.

thank you :)

yup, my FR is really pretty weak. i was thinking of taking up F7 next sem as 'revision' though i am exempted.. then afterwhich, i will take up P2 the next next sem

btw, would like to check with u if P papers are required to be taken in order? for example, need to clear compulsory P papers before options papers? if needed, i gotta drag my options papers dued to my 'F7' revision next sem lol

i think u can save the revision $ and reg for p2 because the lecturer will go through it again but at much faster pace..just remind yourself to study extra hard when studying for your p2

sure why not? if you are those who study consistently. if you know the concepts at your finger tips im sure you can take 4 at one go. provided enough effort is put in. effort varies from person to person

true and there are some factors you can take note to improve your chances of passing. e.g: the exam dates,e difficulty level of modules and any overlap btw modules.

big 4 does hire ACCA foler with all 14 moules done.

ntu and nus only got 5-6k graduating per year, and obviously only a small fraction of the go to big 4 because only less than 500 are for accounting....preference wise is that local government uni >>> ACCA >>> foreign uni

seriously but, ironically, intrview is not that important as compared to interview for engineers and business related job.

Interview is not so impt? Hm.... because turnover rate is high?

u mean big 4? possible but u start lowest.

How low is low? I am thinking if I cant pass my dec paper, I may try opting for IT audit using my other cert. I have only completed 8 paper so far up to June 2010 paper. Other then a IT audit, what are the possible position available?

Path to ICPAS and CPA

Hi

I have graduated from UOL accounting and finance and wanted to take my CPA/ICPAS.

To go ACCA/CPA, i have to take a 2-3 skill modules and Professional Module.

To go for ICPAS, i have to take 2-3 qualifying modules (i think) and then the 5 professional modules.

Anyone can compare the
1) cost
2) time of studying
3) Recognition of the ICPAS and CPA
4) The steps to convert my ICPAS to CPA(UK)

Hi,just to digress from this ACCA thread to answer your question here.

Depending on whether you did take the required uol units by ICPAS (you can check it out in the ICPAS PE website here). If you have not taken HRM,Info Systems and Elements of Contract Law,you will most likely have to study for these 3 units together with the 5 compulsory papers. You have 5 years to complete ICPAS PE and it is a self study program, except for the optional 5 revision workshop sessions for one paper. For more info, check out the website and do your own research.
http://esr.icpas.com.sg/ESR/PEWeb/pe_overview.jsp

For ACCA,you have F4,F6,P1,P2,P3 and 2 more optional units (choose from P4-P7).If you take acca is that you will have good reference study manuals and revision kits to help you prepare for the exams, and professional guidance by experience lecturers.

For your above question,it is up to you to personally think carefully which one suits you best.I personally feel that ICPAS PE is slightly cheaper than ACCA (provided you don't fail the 5 units,go for resits and the revision workshops).

I roughly know the path and papers that i will have to go through for 'direct' ICPAS and ACCA->CPA. The cost is roughly about the same i suppose if there is no hidden cost on the website. Just wanted to make sure there is no major differences in cost.

Not sure about the effort needed especially on the 3 additional units that i didn't take for UOL for the 'direct' ICPAS. There are no information given on the website about that.

No preference on whether it is CPA or ICPAS as long as it is shortest way. :)

Lastly, I know that CPA(UK) can convert to ICPAS by taking local legal exams or something like that. But to convert ICPAS to CPA(UK), is it possible?

From the ICPAS PE accreditation weblink i provided, there is a pdf file on UOL units to be taken. The 3 units if you need to top them up are known as "killer" papers in UOL (being heavily theory intensive and essay exam format for 2 units)

For me,ICPAS PE will be the fastest for me if I want to finish it within 2 years and no resits [$168 registration fee + $315 annual fee + ($630 exam fee per unit x 5 units) + optional workshops].

Not too sure for ICPAS to CPA (UK).You may want to ask either ICPAS or ACCA instead.

i think 4,6,7 all have sg variant but for 7 the sg variant is not that important and rather similar to international, just some name changes like FRS.

textbooks are all the same. kaplan or bpp equally good. if u get in sg most likely it is sg variant.

-

it is a good idea to take f7 as revision. but most people who take p2 probably forget most of their f7 stuffs, they will also revise back when needed. if you are not tight no cash then go for classes, otherwise u can read the text.

Hi,

I checked with the bpp distributor for sg, they told me there's no sg variant for the textbooks. Only international or eng.

So what i would like to know is that, for sg variant papers like F4 & F6 which i think may have differences from the int papers. (i suppose different countries have different laws and tax)

Is it alright to use the international study texts for the subjects?
Is there any ways to learn about the differences between sg variant and int?

Many Thanks

there will be difference here and there... for example upon liquidation, there is a section of prefered debtors, which is uniquely singapore. i cant remember my F4 text book otally, but i think it is of SGP variant. it would be better to get a SGP variant text for the variant paper u taking. If not, rather u change your paper to int variant.

Thanks nwstbz23. You also answered my question on how to top up the 3 units which i forgot to ask. I pretty sure that i will be through ACCA then CPA now.

Thanks again.
