A piece of advice to those buying textbooks from ACCA students.. there have been a change in syllabus for most of the ACCA modules in the recent years and examiners will tend to test newly included topics more often.. please check the ACCA website for the list of syllabus covered in the upcoming exams to prevent any "surprise" during the actual exam..

Asking around. Is there local knowledge stuffs in P1 or there is not much difference between SG stuffs and international stuff? I am asking this before i can be sure to buy international edition of P1 from BPP.

Hi there

I am a P1 tutor, by the way.

The P1 syllabus is virtually identical for INT and SGP streams. The Singapore exam questions/answers will refer to Singapore's own Code of Governance should that subject come up, but apart from a few of the details the principles of good governance (which is what the examiner is interested in) are the same for Singapore as for the UK (INT stream is based on the UK Code of Governance).

Trust me, there is nothing to worry about and INT stream books are fine for P1.

Hope that assures you.

Hi all,

May I know what are the chances of an ACCA qualified entering a mid-tier audit firm as an auditor(not tax or accounts)?
I do not have any diploma etc. My next highest education is 'O' levels with pretty decent score(4As) plus 1 year experience in AP from a reputable firm. Btw, I am 25 this year. Anyone working(current or ex) there noe?

Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks in advance

I am thinking whether to take F4 (14 June) or F8 (18 June)? I am only free after May 19.

Can anyone advise me on which one is the more complicated one? If I take both and study, will I stand a chance to pass?

You stand better chance to pass F4 rather than F8. F4 has 7 knowledge-based questions and 3 application-based questions. F8 is heavy on application-based questions.

depends. complex theory based question requires full attention to the explaination of answer, and copying while the teacher is talking may direct away some attention. of course i would say this situation is less likely in acca, it does occurs in studies...

Interesting debate this! Not sure who the tutor was, but it might have been me (if so I am being very very misquoted, so maybe it was somebody else).

Everything I write on the screen in class is saved and sent to students (most tutors now do this I think). However, I tell my classes that it is better to write things down themselves, not rely on what they are sent after the class.

The simple reason for this is that learning is an ACTIVE thing and very few people can learn from staring at someone else's writing. Writing things helps them to sink in, and it is even better if students write things in their own words rather than simply copying, so that when reading notes later in term they still make sense!

As others have said, different strokes for different folks and all that, and I get the point that there is a clear benefit if a student can listen, rather than focus on copying - but I have researched this subject throughout my 16 year teaching career and all the research backs me up :)

Anyway, the very fact that this is being discussed will make a lot of students think about it, and that in itself is positive for better learning in the future.

I am about to complete acca but i can't visualize how acc jobs are really like.

I read through but of the job description via website but remain rather confused.

Isn't there acc software to automatically produce the bs/p&l, what are there left for us to do?

What AR/AP does? I heard is very operational administrative(key invoice, etc.) work, acca graduates should not do this? True?

Forecasting? how is forecasting done?

thanks for any advice

You are about to graduate with ACCA and yet you have no idea what are those? Had you never work before?

Balance Sheet / Profit & Loss statement - The software automate the process, the accounting personal are those who key it in.

AP have to check if the AP accounts are correct. Does the figures in the invoices tally with the goods received and so on.

AR have to make phone call to collect payment. Check if payments are correct. Check if there are any returned goods and so on.

Forecasting will depends on individual company. Budget presented by various departments, compared with cash flows of the company. Check tax rebates and such. Hardly a walk in a park.

Software only assist, it is the human that are doing the work.

Nopex, I nv work in accounts department before. Only intern in tax department of an audit firm.

Of cuz by THEORY I know what are all those. But we learnt so many IFRS, IAS to call debator for payment? Tally invoice amount? data entry job? things that everyone can do?

I assume we would doing more knowledge based stuffs(similar to my intern in tax)? I like doing tax but don't seem to hav much career opportunities, now considering accounting.

Sorry all, and forgive me for my 'noobness'.

Dear all,

I am coming to an end of my internship in Diploma in accountancy.

I wish to take something different in my University degree after my NS if possible. However, i would also wish to accomplish my ACCA qualifications during army.

If i am all honest and report my sub-dislocation in my arm. I think i might be going to be pes C .

If and only if i am going to be having a 8 am - 5 pm within the 2 years.

Is it possible to take my acca and if so how should i go about doing this?

Would appreciate if someone can let me know as im in serious dilemma.

Thank you all in advance!

If you take 3 papers per semester, in your two years in army, then you can clear 12 papers if you pass all at first sitting. Diploma means you can be exempted from a few papers in ACCA, most likely 3. So obviously can complete.

However, I do not really recommend 3 per semester all the way. I think you can clear 3 per semester for F papers and 2 per semester for P papers. You can take part-time concurrently with your university studies.

For your university course, choose something that is complimentary to ACCA, eg: business, computer science, computer engineering etc.
