If you take 3 papers per semester, in your two years in army, then you can clear 12 papers if you pass all at first sitting. Diploma means you can be exempted from a few papers in ACCA, most likely 3. So obviously can complete.

However, I do not really recommend 3 per semester all the way. I think you can clear 3 per semester for F papers and 2 per semester for P papers. You can take part-time concurrently with your university studies.

For your university course, choose something that is complimentary to ACCA, eg: business, computer science, computer engineering etc.

PES C not equal to 8-5 confirm.

Nopex, I nv work in accounts department before. Only intern in tax department of an audit firm.

Of cuz by THEORY I know what are all those. But we learnt so many IFRS, IAS to call debator for payment? Tally invoice amount? data entry job? things that everyone can do?

I assume we would doing more knowledge based stuffs(similar to my intern in tax)? I like doing tax but don't seem to hav much career opportunities, now considering accounting.

Sorry all, and forgive me for my 'noobness'.

AP/AR not as easy as what you thought... there are many reports in itself to produce. I would think it is easiest among other accounting but without experience, in any.. u think u can just straight away go in to do GL/FA or consol?

Huh? But I have a upcoming job interview for GL acc position, u mean i should learn ap/ar first?

Of cuz I dun mind learning from basic, just wondering how knowledge gain from ACCA is applicable to accounting job. ALL i noe about AR is Dr AR Cr Revenue, then when cash is received, Dr Cash Cr Ar. THAT ALL! I don't see my AR knowledge is better than an 'o' & 'a' level student(with accounting subject).

Sorry for another noob qns, which accountant(GL/AR/AP/FA) produce or monitor the BS, IS, SOE?

GL produces the financial statements and is supposedly the most difficult position among ap,ar and fa. to be a GL accountant, most likely that person has done full set before, so she is able to give advise to ap,ar,fa staff if there is any issue in accounting. the idea here is not saying which area to start is better. the idea here is to go through the full set of accounts from ap to ar to fa to GL then consolidation if there is a chance. this is the whole spectrum of accounting.

AP/AR is not as easy as what u said. for AR, it includes debt factoring, invoicing, follow up with customer issues, supporting marketing dept, etc... AP has to be very good in exp claiming, processing payment to suppliers, invoice financing, etc.. of course the duties/job scope really depends very much on the size of the company and whether your company is listed or not.

Ic, I nv though Ap/Ar is a simple job, simply can't relate ACCA knowledge to the job scope. You don't learn invoicing, processing payment, follow up customer issue, expenditure claiming in acca. All this sound very operational(or administrative, but not easy of cuz) to me.

For other areas - management accounting, cost accounting, taxation, auditing, consolidation - Its much more straightforward, can easily see how knowledge links to its job.

Hmm, care to roughly describe your daily work life?
For instance:

830am - 900am (e.g. checking mails)
900am - 1000am
1000am - 1100am

Anyway, thank you for the advices

Icpas ask me pay annual fee or else I have acca terminated. I thought they broke up?

Not sure when will it take effect. Better pay....I think it is better to be in the ICPAS-ACCA route than ACCA only route unless you are not local thus no need to practise in Singapore. If u are a local, it is better to be in the system during this transition period, just my thought, as a kiasee Singaporean. : p

agree with u. A/R A/P not easy. somemore in my section the A/R is doing treasury functions, have to do hedging and cashflow forecast along with basic A/R functions. there is still intercompany transactions and balances got to maintain.

it depends on your spectrum and how much u willing to learn. Im in GL but it dun mean i know exactly what everyone else is doing. im fortunate im in GL and last yr my colleague was hospitalized for 3 mths and i gotta cover the a/P side for 3 mths. made me learn alot abt payables and charging to corect cost centres. made me appreciate budgets too.

GL is not everything. is like overview of accts but u nv know the subledgers until u do them yourself.

going into A/R, cashflow, interco treasury function soon. CFO believes in job rotation everyone got to change something to do this yr or next. wish me luck =)

they break up in sept 2012. so right now they haven, you still pay for the last year of the effective jes. irregardless of your choice of icpas plus route or acca only route.

guys my wife has only 1 optional paper left to do (P4), seems like she is not getting any interviews at all. She has no work experience before this but is looking for an entry level accounting job. How do you all go about searching? any website for entry level acca jobs?
do you'll physically send your resume or apply through sites like jobstreet? she has been applying so many jobs through jobstreet but not even 1 reply so far :(

Entry Level accounting? Had she tried those position that does not require an ACCA? Like those that requires a diploma or LCCI?

I apply mainly at jobsdb...

But now job market not good la. I sent out numerous emails everyday for 3 weeks I only got 3 interviews, of which 2 never get back to me after that.

Another thing is to be realistic abt the salary...most company are looking for exp ppl even at entry level. Given the same salary, the rather hire somebody with exp and no cert than somebody with cert n exp...
