Maybe she should start after she get her ACCA. Without the full ACCA cert, she is just having 'O' levels. Anyway, even those who are looking for Partial ACCA cert holders requires you to have certain experience.

I just went for the kaplan FIA talk and right now very interested to embark on my ACCA journey.

However, i do not know whether is worth it or not since i already have a degree cert in marketing from murdoch uni (DL). And i have like 4 years of working experience (non accountancy).

Reason why i wanna take ACCA is partly due to interest and also feeling stagnant in doing what i'm doing now. But seriously i do not know whether i am able to last the full 14 papers and of course whether it is worth spending money on the course and exam fees.

Advice? :slant:

I am offered 2.5k + $400 increment annually for first 5yrs as an accounts executive role(not sgx listed). I am certain the starting pay is normal, but what about the incremental per year? Is it at market rate for accounting(not audit)?

I was also told that by end of 5th year, there is a good chance(unless i screw up) I would be promoted to accountant. My qns is: what is the diff in job scope between account executive and accountant? appear the same to me.

Is it normal for accounting sector to hop? I really hope to work in a sgx listed firm.

Btw, I am fresh beside an insignificant 2mths internship in tax department of
an audit firm.

ACCA isn't easy. Do you intend to do full-time or part-time?
Assuming part-time, expect for F1-F3, i believe most part-timer(depending on ur working hrs) can do only 1-2 paper(s) at one sitting. There is no guarantee you would pass too. It might take some time(4 -5yrs for part-timer?) for u to complete. Furthermore, u would probably need to accept a pay-cut.

I am not discouraging you, but hope u consider the cons too. I am sure(nv gone b4 though) the talk you attended make lots of positive(maybe? irresponsible) statements.

DO NOT(imo) take CAT first even if u dun hav accounting background - some ppl would advise u to do this. Its highly not recomended! Trust me u will understand the basic principles in accounting when studying ACCA- I dun even noe what is debit credit when I 1st started ACCA.

guys my wife has only 1 optional paper left to do (P4), seems like she is not getting any interviews at all. She has no work experience before this but is looking for an entry level accounting job. How do you all go about searching? any website for entry level acca jobs?
do you'll physically send your resume or apply through sites like jobstreet? she has been applying so many jobs through jobstreet but not even 1 reply so far :(

I suggest she apply for some internship first?

why not try audit firm? seems like she is more interested in accounting but audit exposure is gd for accounting too.

For big4 and mid-tier audit firm USUALLY they wan full ACCA cert for full-time permanent position. Try applying internship in big4 or mid-tier? of cuz low pay, but would be a gd exp. Sent her resume + cover letter(optional i think but best juz write) directly through their website. FYI, small audit firm accept partial acca for full-time position.

Big 4 audit firm

Ernst & young
KPMG
Deloitte & touche
Pricewaterhouse

Mid-tier audit firms(not exclusively) are:

Foo Kon Tan Grant Thornton LLP
BDO Singapore
RSM Chio Lim Stone Forest
Baker Tilly TFW
Nexia TS
PKF Singapore
Moore Stephens LLP Singapore
Mazars LLP Singapore
Crowe Horwath First Trust
LTC LLP

Actually now isn't the typical internship period, so it might be hard but worth a try. Consider applying intern or full time positon in small audit firm too.

For commerical accounting internship, I dunno where hav but her sch(saa? kaplan?) should hav contacts? try asking?

agree with u. A/R A/P not easy. somemore in my section the A/R is doing treasury functions, have to do hedging and cashflow forecast along with basic A/R functions. there is still intercompany transactions and balances got to maintain.

it depends on your spectrum and how much u willing to learn. Im in GL but it dun mean i know exactly what everyone else is doing. im fortunate im in GL and last yr my colleague was hospitalized for 3 mths and i gotta cover the a/P side for 3 mths. made me learn alot abt payables and charging to corect cost centres. made me appreciate budgets too.

GL is not everything. is like overview of accts but u nv know the subledgers until u do them yourself.

going into A/R, cashflow, interco treasury function soon. CFO believes in job rotation everyone got to change something to do this yr or next. wish me luck =)

Thanks for the advices, have been helpful.
I hope I can get some job rotation too.

Hi all ,
I have just attended the SAA-GE talk at SAA. I read some posts on this thread and saw that it is possible to attend lectures in others schools? Can anyone enlighten me on this matter?

Thanks

I need help in getting my PER. :(

Who can I approach to be the "qualified workplace mentor"? So far, none of my supervisor (all finance managers) are qualified, they are just merely experienced. It is so hard to find someone qualified. Is there any external person from Kaplan, etc who can act as a support and counter sign as a training supervisor instead?

I've read ACCA and they were telling us to ask external auditors which I find so weird and so uncomfortable letting them know something so personal.

Can anybody advise who is in the same situation?

Thanks

I Failed my F5 (43 Mark) as expected
and passed my F4 (52 Mark) not as expected, as I expect an higher mark, guess that is due to my poor english.

Thank you.

No idea why so hard to pass it, other papers also not so bad.

Are you working when you take the papers? My last attempt not working but didn't clear it, now wanna find job also hard, not full qualification and got to cope with 2 things.

Ya F4 is unexpected for me too (51%), barely pass but I am lucky enough to score 66% for my F5. And sooo happy that I passed F3 (52%) cos it is so tough compare to past yr and I can't do more than half the paper. :s12:

Get ready for F6 and F7 this sem now. :s12:
