can confirm if non ntu staff or student can buy the acer at discounted price at 8 flags?

Yes you can but you will encounter problems later just like my friend. Some things are just too good to be true. The good thing is I didnt recommend my cousin to get from them else he will hate me for this.

so in a sense, if got any outsider bought the Aspire One from 8 Flags at the discounted price...unless the person knows what he is doing and doesnt need the warranty, might as well kick himself in the backside. but if it was bought by a fren studying in ntu then okay-lah.

Dont think that it will be a problem IF you have a friend currently studying in NTU.

if we want send in for servicing, don't have to get that ntu friend to go down on behalf rite? as long as the warranty is under his name should be enough already?

need him and the student card. Thats how NUS laptop ownership works if i remember correctly.

They also check if the service location matches the one used to register the laptop.

i think NTU works differently. I used to bring my gf's acer laptop (under ntu tender) for servicing, didn't need her nor her matric card to be present at all. They will just agree the serial number under the laptop to what's recorded in their system.

From personal experience, acer did not require any form of identification for the laptop i bought from NUS through a friend. I went to the service centre twice for repairs and not once was i asked for any form of identification(even though the name on receipt is female!). Oh well, the procedures may have changed now. I'm not 100% sure as well. In any case, i stay within walkable distance of NTU so anything wrong i'll just bring it back to 8flags if I'm unable to get repairs through acer.

lastly, this may sound out of point but hey, the business world IS a warzone, not beyond espionage and sabotage.

Actually i called 8flags and they did told me b4 that customers need to present their matrix card or staff card when purchasing. and i asked them quite a few times b4. dono who say public can order de. and MR SLS dealer, its not very nice to push ppl lower jus to make yourself taller and higher. anyway, all these seems like a plot to sabotage 8flags. Haha. i am not a SLS dealer nor an 8flags staff. i am jus a public who feel unfair for 8flags. and that's how rumors starts. from ppl who giv in wrong informations.

I can verify that - I just called 8flags and they said it's only for NTU student/staff.

Their website is a little misleading though - the 'Others' category is where i saw the Acer Aspire....the other two categories are under tender...... so it seems like 'others' is for non NTU buyers.

Guess have to wait for COMEX.

i think because 8flags is a student-run co-op, there are different people at the store at different times and hence there may be misunderstandings regarding certain policies. i also thought that one needed to be a ntu student to buy at the listed price, and i even brought along a friend studying in ntu when i went down to buy. In the end, the guy at the counter said it is not restricted to students and staff only and i made the order using my own name. perhaps it is true that 8flags was mistaken initially and have now reverted to the policy required by acer.

Had thought of getting my sis to help me get the Aspire One since she's studying in NUS, but ultimately decided I want a black one so just continue waiting (maybe in vain), or I'd just get the S10 instead.
