The no stir ones are just the same as other commercial brands, full of trans fats; buy only the natural stir version.

its confusing.

i bought it because its the only (adams) can available.

:o

the expiry date is 16 sep. why?

most peanut butter can last 1 yr.

What's so confusing? Just read the ingredients list. Stay away from anything that has hydrogenated oil, monoglycerides or diglycerides - these contain trans fats.

adam's pb like other natural pb have little or no preservatives in them. The natural oil separation has a tendency to go rancid over time if not refrigerated. Some preseveratives like addition of transfats/hydrogenated oils extends the shelf life

1. Natural Peanut Butter
Natural peanut butter is peanut butter in its purest form—in most cases it’s just ground-up peanuts and maybe a dash of salt. Because of this, natural peanut butter acts a little differently than “regular” commercial peanut butter—in natural peanut butter, the oils from the peanuts can separate from the solids, something that doesn’t happen with regular peanut butter thanks to the addition of hydrogenated oils—and you should treat it a little differently too.

If you don’t plan on finishing your jar of natural peanut butter within a month or so, or if you live in a hot climate, consider refrigerating it. The oils in the peanuts can go rancid if it’s not kept cool over a long period of time. If the label recommends refrigerating after opening, follow the instructions. (Also, if your peanut butter develops mold, toss it—because peanut butter is processed without preservatives, it’s at high risk for mold, according to the USDA.) If you’re concerned about spreadability because your peanut butter is hard from being in the cold refrigerator, let it sit out at room temperature for a bit before spreading.

Peanut Butter Info/

Trans-fatty acids are an example of what can happen to essential nutrients when a food is processed. Also called hydrogenated fats, these fatty acids are found in margarine, vegetable shortenings, crackers, cookies, snack foods and numerous other processed foods. Trans-fats are produced by a chemical process in which hydrogens are added to an unsaturated fatty acid. The food industry uses this process because it converts a liquid fat to a soft solid form, like margarine, and also because it increases the shelf-life for fats. In this process, however, the fatty acid molecule shifts structures to a structure that is not found in the body; that is, the fats in the body occur in what is called a "cis" 3-dimensional structure, and trans-fatty acids are the opposite of that, and are a "trans" structure. Chemically, they are different.

most other PB's have these preservatives.

anyway here is what I got from Alan Aragon's Research Review on trans fat

A critically important principle to keep in mind is that trans fats are merely a single factor among a multitude of factors that contribute to heart disease. The impact of other factors (particularly modifiable factors like smoking and physical activity) should not be downplayed in favor of fixating on trans fats. I'll end off by quoting Meister and Kava in perhaps the most eloquent (and fundamentally accurate) statement I've read on the present topic.

"Although scientists now agree that TFAs are not as healthful as their cis counterparts, exaggerated claims that TFAs pose dire health threats even in trace amounts are not supported by scientific evidence and are unwarranted. TFAs are not poison; they are simply one of several dietary factors that affect blood lipid levels, and blood lipid levels are only one of several major factors that influence the risk of heart disease"

I used to be on the pro natural PB/ anti-TFA train. Until i decided to live a little and eat other (more affordable) brands.
