could not seem to get anything from the singapore GTR club.
would like to ask for advice here.

I am noob on this car but i do know there is differences between every model year.

1. i heard that a 2008 model at stage 2 can already make up all the differences between the different year model in terms of performance. so if i intend to go stage 2, is it true to say 2008 model is enough?
2. what is the pro GTR workshops locally? i want to get the car checked at a workshop before purchasing it.
3. are there any serious maintenance issues with the gearbox of the GTR? can a mechanic check if it has problems? also, if the clutch has been replaced with performance ones, will it still have those serious issues?
4. anyone happen to know which company gives the best insurance rate for this car?
5. is the GTR an LTA magnet? i previously drove an LTA magnet and really hated the constant stopping and checking.

Thanks so much.

i can only answer point 1 based on what i read on the HK forums.

the answer is yes, no need to get the latest shiniest "black" version. less depreciation hit to take as well, acquire it, drive for a few years and put it back on the market.

this is an extract from the post:

i just aim at the prise per performance.
it nothing for you to do , just leave your car to MCR.

If you must choose the new one, fine.

but if i have the same car with same performance, why should i buy the one which is more expensive?

That kind of tuning i mentioned, is power up the 09 version and enforce some of parts , to the same spec of the 2013 STOCK version.
most parts are shared, and the 09 Spec V is much much lighter than the 13 Black edition.

curb weight 1680kg VS 1740kg.

it's just the same performance, and i am not going to advise you for "my" version.

Another example, except branding, an AUDI A4 the same as VW passat , same Performance, same parts , same chassis.

if i need comfortable just the same as you ,why should i pay for more than 100k for same car?

in your case , tuning a R35 09V spec to 2013, even you have money, why you need to pay for extra fee?

MAYBE , just because of the word "new" or "virginity".
i am sure that a car you have changed most of the part to the newest version, i don't think as an ordinary person, we can find different between them.

You can try Maximus Racing, many GTRs go there for servicing. The workshop owner drives one too. :)

1. Yes stage 2 is sufficient. If you want more power and not scared of LTA then put the correct midpipe for additional ~60hp
2. MB Motors, Dynotech , ST powered, Maximus Racing, LTM
3. Gearbox are one of the most common problem for GTR, set aside ~$15k and be prepared for the gearbox problem to come anytime
4. Aviva is cheap, but be prepared for them to turn down the claim. Another option is Chartis
5. Confirm LTA magnet :D:D:D

seriously i cannot thank you guys enough for the help. it seems all my doubts are cleared except for the biggest one, the gearbox.

setting aside $15k is to replace gearbox right? but is it always the case to replace the gearbox, or could it sometimes be to just replace the clutchpack? i am saying this is because that was what happen to my legacy gt, the gearbox broke, but the WS was able to open it up and install performance clutchpacks.

why not? i got quite a steady driving experience with no accidents and i have been handling a 470 bhp tuned car for quite some time already, i feel i am ready for the godzilla. :s13:

lol, just joking, what i mean is that the only possible upgrade from my current ride is the gtr, i do not see any other less expensive option worthy to be an upgrade.

i asking because i don't want to buy a car and then spend lots of money and time to park it in a workshop for repairs. my previous ride was such a headache because of the constant shuffling to the workshop.

In my humble opinon, GTR is reliable enough to be used as a daily ride. If i'm looking for a 2door 4seater ride i'd get one too. The early gearbox failure may be due to excessive launching or spirited driving, which is a common risk to all auto gearbox. Just that the GTR auto gearbox is more expensive than those found in normal B&B cars hence raising eyebrows.

Hope this helps. :)

Seriously how fast can you go in Singapore? Need such a fast car but drive 90-100 on expressway?

Can try Lim Tan Motor. Quite popular for GTR as well.

Other suggestions would be:
MB Performance
ST Powered
Garage R

I think for maintenance wise quite tedious, tyres need change every 10,000km for optimum grip? Servicing every 3000km?

Honestly, if you do track, this will be a good car. But if you don't, probably can consider a porsche? I heard porsche maintenance quite easy.

LTA magnet, definitely!
Insurance, confirm high regardless of anywhere!

porsche depreciation too expensive liao. and performance not up to par with GTR.

In my opinion, in SG, if really want run, a 500bhp car might not be able to outrun a 200bhp car due to road conditions.

I believe porsche status is diff from GTR. And yes Porsche depreciation higher.. But maintaining GTR is not cheap and may come up to even more cost in the end.. Cayman ok wad. Depreciation abt there.
