Hi people, can I check for Tune Hotel, do they have electric fans in the room? If I don't opt for any aircon. Thanks!

a little bit of rant here...

just came back from penang on a 3d/2n trip over the weekend. my group of 6 stayed at tune hotel which basically cost less than S$30 per room. however the service wasn't so good on the 1st day.

even though i booked 3 rooms more than a month ago, they somehow allocated one of my rooms to be at another corner of the hotel which was quite far from the other two rooms.

i went back to the check-in counter to request for a room to be nearer to the other two rooms. however the lady who attended to me rejected me outright by saying all the rooms not available. to me she is just plain lazy as shown below.

luckily my wife caught a glimpse of their room list and saw that there are a couple of available rooms which are near to my other two rooms. i told the lady this and she conjured another crap excuse saying the room hasn't been cleaned yet.

i told her i dun mind waiting and asked her how long will it takes. all she said is she dunno.

by now i'm getting a little pissed off and i told her that you are working for the hotel and you dunno how long you need for cleaning the room?

she replied she dun clean the rooms personally! the housekeeping people are the guys cleaning the rooms.

at this point my volcano is going to erupt anytime. how long is this simple request going to drag on?

i told her to please go and check and she went to her colleague and mumbled something. i told my wife 'what rubbish' in a rather loud manner (got a nudge from my wife for this) and i think they got the hint. they eventually retreated to a room behind the counter and came out in about a minute and told me they will change the room for me and it will be ready in 30 min.

i went back to the counter after 30 min but the room still wasn't ready yet. it's ok though as we are going out our exploration.

eventually i got the room that night.

for the rest of the two days, their service is not too bad.

by the way for the benefit of those who needs the info,

from the airport, go to level 2 (departure hall) and take bus 401E which can bring you to komtar bus interchange. from there you can walk to tune hotel.

tune hotel to komtar bus interchange is about 10-15min walk.

from the hotel, turn left and walk all the way until jln penang (there is a multi-way pedestrian bridge at the jln penang junction). then turn right and walk further down until you see komtar. cross the road and walk for another 3 min and you will see the bus interchange.

penang hill is closed for the next 6 months. i made a wasted trip there. but kek lok si is nearby.

happy holiday!

Thank you for the information

I stayed before in some of Penang's budget options.
Most notably Friendship Motel near to Esplanade (about RM55 per room for two, with air cond but communal bathroom) which is a clean and simple budget motel, and another nearer to KOMTAR named Trang Hotel that still maintains the ancient colonial outlook.

Hotels wise, Gurney Hotel, G Hotel and Northam are good choices. If going in a large number can consider the suites. Not very pricey, if low season last time we managed to get a suite with two bedrooms at Gurney Hotel for less than RM300!

Of course, I doubt the offer stands til now.

Hydro Majestic Hotel at Tg Bungah is cheap, less than RM200 per room for two on low season. But without a personal beach. Hard Rock Hotel is the newest in Batu Ferringhi, but about RM400-RM500 per room now, if I'm not mistaken.

So did you get a room with a window? I understand that some rooms have windows and some do not. which did you get?

TIA
