Yeah, getting around penang using grab is super cheap. From the airport to Jelutong area, where my relatives stay, it cost RM15, super cheap. Getting around town is easy enough, as the price is already ore determined, therefore you don't have to worry about taxi drivers overcharging you when they don't have a meter....

Hi Any itinerary to follow for penang trip?

Prefer eating and shopping. Abit of sight seeing.

Hi,

Tropical fruit farm, Saanen Daily Goat farm, Audi Dream farm, Ghee Hup Nutmeg Factory, Etopia (expensive ticket) can complete within a day with penang hill and Kek lok si temple.
Penang hill and Kek lok si temple need to check if they are open.
Escape adventure
Morning Market - Chowrasta Market and Pulau Tikus Hawker Center

Design Village for factory outlet like IMM, it's outside Penang island. You can get a free shuttle bus there from CIMB PRANGIN MALL (KOMTAR) at 10.15am/ 3.15pm. Returns from Design Village at 1.30pm/ 7pm. (need to check for schedule changes)

Chew Jetty (nearby have street art so can combine)

There are a lot more to explore depend on how many days you are going. Hotel if not book, try to stay in Georgetown, easy to go other places.

Hope these can help you plan.

For tourist attraction, it depends on your interests. Penang is suitable for various groups of visitors. For Shopping, you may go to gurney plaza, Queensbay and gurney paragon. For street foods, many folks have provided the information in earlier messages.

Hin Bus Depot has a Sunday market if you like arts and crafts. The bar DSRT in St Giles Wembley (near Komtar) has an amazing view too.

QUICK RUN DOWN OF EVENTS ON DAYS 1-15

Eve of CNY. The Tow Boo Kong Temple in Butterworth will be having a big countdown and firework display at midnight. Unless you have your own transport, or can arrange with a taxi to take you over and wait for you, it’s not the easiest of places to get to.

1st Day - 16th February. This is a day when families tend to stay at home. It’s the one day of the year when you can go down to George Town and find a parking spot. Wealthier families, businesses, restaurants and hotels will call in Lion Dancers to drive out evil spirits. Listen for the sound of drumming and firecrackers.

The Chief Minister has in previous years held an Open House at the SPICE arena. Anyone can go.

2nd day - 17th February Lion Dancing continues, and you will still see it for the rest of CNY. The 2nd day is when families go to visit each other.

5th Day - 20th February. Penang Hill will be having their Chinese New Year Celebrations.
penanghill.gov.my/index.php/…

In previous years there have been activities up on the hill including Lion Dancers.

6th Day – 21st Feb - Snake Temple celebrations for Cheng Chooi Chor Soo Kong. Cultural dances, fire walking, performances, food.

7th Day - Man’s Birthday. The Tow Boo Kong Temple in Butterworth will be having a big Yee Sang (Lou Sang) tossing ceremony.

9th Day – 24th February – Hokkien New Year. Celebrations the night before on the 8th at the Clan Jetties and Air Itam to celebrate their forefathers escape from China by hiding in sugar cane plantations. Offerings include food, fruits, liquor and of course sugar canes.
https:/…

9th and 10th Days - 24th - 25th February – Penang Hot Air Balloon and Fiesta 7.00am – 9.30 pm at the Polo Ground. A few balloons fly, but only very early in the morning. You may need to get there at 6am to see them. https:/… and
penanghotairballoonfiesta.com

Day - 25th February – What used to be called the Penang Chinese New Year Celebrations this year is called “Searching for the beauty of Penang” – 4pm – 11pm George Town heritage enclave (Gat Lebuh Armenian + Lebuh Cannon). This year it is being run on a voluntary basis, following a disagreement between the Clan Associations and the State, and will probably be on a smaller scale. If you’ve been before do bear this in mind. https://www.facebook.com/penangcny/

15th Day – 2nd March – Chap Goh Meh. This is the Chinese Valentines night where traditionally unmarried girls, who were heavily chaperoned, used to go and throw oranges with their names on into the sea in the hope of finding a husband. The tradition still continues but now it’s mobile phone numbers. Various locations including the Esplanade and Straits Quay.

I stay in Sunway hotel before, location is good.
Most of the attractions will be in Georgetown and some on the ulu side like temple and farms.

My last stay with my family in Penang was at Marina Bay (AirBnB). It is walking distance to Gurney Drive Hawker Centre. The Condo is clean and quiet. They have a nice swimming pool. Security Guards on guard 24.7.

Self drive is a long journey from SG to Penang ( 9 hours ). Ensure you have enough rest in between.

Driving in Penang is challenging and need a lot of patience. Most of the time, they don't give way. So just drive defensively.
