Stayed before at Hard Rock and Cititel hotel. Hard Rock is theme hotel which is the cheapest among all other countries. Cititel is at Georgetown which is near to most shopping areas and accessible to anywhere. :D

i see, ok i have more or less decided.
4d3n, 1st day arrive early and eat breakfast and walk around and stay in georgetown (most prob bayview hotel).
2nd day breakfast,check-out and walk around george town, follow by going around penang tour, check in to (lone pine) at ferringhi.
3rd day relax around ferringhi area, perhaps night market and day time going somewhere near ferringhi for sightseeing.
4th day check out and back to SG.

how does it sound?

if you like nature, you may visit penang national park on your third day. You have option for hiking or a boat to monkey beach. Butterfly farm, escape and batik factory are also nearby.

seriously penang is so small, i dont think you need to change hotel. if you like to stay at beach area, stick to lone pine.. or perhaps check out golden sands hotel. its a hassle to check-in & check-out, specially your trip is only for 4 days.

then never mind lor, stay george town, u can visit the local area night market too.
the drive from georgetown to ferringhi without jam is probably 30-40 mins only.

since u have car, can go many places normally people don't go.

for example, if u like durian, u can go Bao Sheng Durian farm, (30-40 mins drive from lone pine towards balik pulau) http://www.durian.com.my

they offer durian buffet if u eat there. the durians they give for buffet is the same as the one they sell normally to other customers (I was there last week only, now durian season for the next 2 months).

it is safe to drive around, but penang has a lot of small narrow roads which some people may find it difficult to navigate. for eg. my SO usually drives in SG, but whenever he accompanies me to Penang, he prefers sit back and let me be the driver.

by the way, if you have not booked your hotel yet, maybe you would like to check out G Hotel, a fairly new hotel located at Gurney Drive (its between Batu Ferringhi where all the beach hotels are, and Georgetown where all the heritage sites are).
