just got myself a set of Aego-M today after contemplating for 1/2 year

soundcard - xfi prelude stock opamp
cables - stock

a big jump from my previous speakers using ADA 890 (both digital and analog comparison)

after considering T3/Klipsch GMX/Creative T40/Aego M - finally decided on Aego M

No reviews on Aego M? :D

Hi Guys!

i'm also using zero dac with my Aego M. The aego M is set at 50% vol and i just adjust the volume in my preamp - Zero DAC if i want low or high volume. Is setting the Aego M at 50% volume defeats the purpose of having a preamp?

Preamp is not a necessity for modern equipment nowadays. For magnetic pickup - tape, phono, mic, guitar, yes. For CD, soundcard, DAC, no. Only exception is for power amplifier with low fixed gain.

But lots of people still use a preamp because of the sound.

So no, setting Aego M at 50% does not defeat the purpose of having a preamp.

But make sure you like the sound of the preamp, my previous DAC has a preamp but I never used it because it drops the SQ too much.

thanks for the very informative reply...

I can say i like the zero dac's SQ better than my previous creative fatality extreme gamer soundcard. Actually, the preamp is more of a convenience because i don't want to have a problem with the Aego M's volume pot if I constantly change volume. Aside from it's SQ as well, which i like too! And of course, a headphone amp as an extra feature =)

Which shop sells the Aego M cheapest? City Electronics? Or Adelphi?

There are better satellites speakers than those two in Aego M.
I upgraded to Wharfedale Crystal 8, driven by Aego M subwoofer at a good price, though I think can be lower. Plus good customer service from Melvin of City Electronics.

Coupled with SRS Audio Sandbox, MP3 finally sound listenable. Without SRS AS, most mp3s sound crap.

With the centre speaker salvaged from the Creative Inspire Digital 5700 5.1 speaker set, I can now enable centre speaker when watching movies or TV from Windows Media Center.
Sound effects are so strong that the neighbour below complain of the solid bass rocking his ceiling!
So to all Aego M subwoofer users, do not pair your Aego M with SRS Audio Sandbox, the bass & clarity can be quite lethal! LOL!
