Hey guys I just realized that I have been using AE speakers for 12 years.

I was thinking of getting another set, current model is still running good but only at medium-loud volumes, if too soft will get scratchy.

By the way that time I bought my speakers $700 just after listening to it without knowing the brand or what, 3 months savings, just hoot, never regretted.

Now $299 is cheap man, but not sure if its as good.

Well one of them is obviously, the endeared Aego-M, Harman Kardon Soundsticks II (actually had it for a present, but not anymore), and Razer Mako.

Very attuned to the Razer Mako, but really would like second opinions due to the exorbitant price. Heard a lot about Aego-M, so here I am!

Soundsticks are downright awful and unpleasant to hear. For the aego m, the artifically pronounced highs (which some people think makes the aego m detailed/ transparent/clear) can be quite tiring when you're listening for long periods of time. As for the mako, it represents quite poor value. I don't know how much it costs now, but if it's still 400+, you're better off getting audioengine a5 speakers at 540. Just the other day my friend came over and he said the a5 totally trash the mako (he has one).

Generally speaking, almost all the PC speakers in the $200-400+ price bracket honestly don't sound that different from one another. Only thing to consider is how much bass/treble you like in your speakers, can't really expect much.

Hmm. Yes, the Makos are going at $499, which is a huge hurdle to climb. I'm most probably dropping by CE (are they still distributing Aego M? And what's the current price?)to audition the Aego M when I can, I'd just heard so much good stuff about it. Oh and, I heard the A5 is really good, just a tad too expensive for a 2.0 in my opinion, though not to doubt its quality.

I'm intending to use the speakers to game, watch movie and listen to music, will the Aego M be able to perform for all of them?

Oh and, are there stands for the Aego M's? Would love to make them stand, and where can I get them?

All i can say is, hype does amazing things. Not sure whether i'm intepreting your "too expensive for a 2.0" comment correctly, because many high end audio setups are 2.0. To put it another way - the addition of a subwoofer is not always a good thing, especially if the sub sucks. And many suck.

Well...for the aego's price range, you can't complain. One of the best speakers you can get in that price range already.

the a5 seems expensive at 540 but it actually represents the best value to performance speakers at a price range above what it's worth... however it definately is not suitable for smaller rooms because it is capable of being amazing loud.. sound is subjective though... i havent yet tried the aego m's but i hear its more of a multimedia speaker than anything else.. imo bookshelves with amp is still the way to go.. cheap offerings seem to have emerged recently.. but im told that while they sound good and are cheap, they're at the near bottom end of an entirely different market where the price of cables alone exceed that of a spanking new set of aego m at 299!

i only just sold off my a5s and have downgraded to krokrafts from scythe which sounds decent enough in my room for now... prolly will follow noinmod's advice and upgrade massively instead of playing around with entry level setups.. once im ready !

The Aego M excels in music. Im using them now mainly for music and it has never disappointed me. Combined with a good DAC, and you will instantly realize that it would sound much richer and the speakers does a better job in spatial differentiation between the left and right stereo tracks than most speakers out there.

If you intend in using it in a small room, the Aego M is perfect for its purpose.

Personally, i find watching movies using the Aego M to be the weakest aspect when using Aego M. Although the audio is clear and crisp, id still prefer watching movies with a good 5.1 surround sound system like those in your typical living room.

Aego M's bass is quite strong, and it can meet the demands of playing shooters like Modern Warfare 2 or Left for Dead. Low frequencies are reproduced pretty accurately, and the base is tight and crisp.

Took the plunge, dropped by CE @ SLS to grab my white set of Aego - M and it's... BEAUTIFUL. Sorry, but I'm not so much of a reviewer so all I can say is that, it sounds so much more different from my old set of speakers. I can literally sit down there and drown in the music. Well worth the money!

Oh, a side question, does it hurt the speaker to keep adjusting the knob and switching off its power? My habit is to turn the knob to off (so that it clicks) and switch off the power. Or is it okay to let the knob stay where it is, and just switch off the power. Or just not touch the power and the knob at all?

yeah, aego M really give me the same experience when i 1st listen to it.
and it the source of all my audio posion which lead me to headphone, IEM, DAC and hifi system...

for me i just leave the switch on all the time, it does feel very hot at the back but it will not damage your subwoofer.

I... took it @ City Electronics @ SLS for $299. I tried quite hard to bargain but cannot leh. If you're getting it, hope you have better luck. KEC @ Adelphi sells this for more expensive so.. CE would be better I guess.

btw wad sound card is recommended for this? i m not usig dac... or anything... pls recommend a good setup to pair with my aego M....???
