Maybe something related to this.

Not sure how true but I was told that these 5 tick outdoor units are the same as the old 2 tick starmex, only with different pcb's to electronically throttle back performance and achieve the energy savings. So maybe that's why there's an option to toggle between 2 power modes if higher cooling capacity is prioritised over energy consumption.
Yes, it is this setting. Now my outdoor unit cannot work with the energy saving setting. only can run on the normal 2 ticks setting. Initially i used the energy saving settings as it is default, after almost 1 year of usage suddenly the outdoor unit can't work, so i switch to the normal setting and it work again.

The settings is on the control PCB, need to switch the jumper
I see. Default should be the 5 ticks energy savings mode?

So what's your plan? Why not just replace the whole outdoor unit with a 2nd hand? Unless you are confident the technician can pinpoint the actual fault.

Received quite a number of PMs on the cost of my starmex setup.

So basically mine is a system 3. I upgraded all materials to thicker amaflex and also choose for the 4G33V compressor to support my system 3.

4g33V + 1 X 9k btu + 12k btu + 24k btu = $3.1k
Hi, can help share the details of your aircon installer?
Can't seem to find an option to send PM

Have several pre-existing Mitsubishi units installed in all the bedrooms and would like to have the living room installed as well now. How much do you guys reckon it will cost roughly and work scope? I was told off hand it could cost more then 10K and was a little shocked.

this changes the standby power consumption from normal to low, when connected to a ducted fancoil unit.

it doesn't change the tick rating 5 to 2.

mitsubishi starmex 2 ticks and 5 ticks rated btu 9600 consumes 620 watts per hour, 8530 btu @ 590 watts per hour.

3 units turned on

2 ticks
3A28VA rated btu is 25,590 @ 2180 watts per hour.

5 ticks
3G28VA2 rated btu 19,448 @ 1170 watts per hour.
4G33VA2 rated btu 21,154 @ 1420 watts per hour.

if the 3 bedrooms require a total of 25,590 btu, the power consumption for the 5 ticks outdoor unit will be the same as 2 ticks outdoor unit @ 2180 watts per hour.

the difference between 2 and 5 ticks is the rated btu, for bedroom even with 2 ticks outdoor unit the consumption is similar since the required btu for the bedroom is 5k to 7k lower than the outdoor unit's rated btu.

Contacted Mitsubishi Electric Asia directly and they simply taichi me to check with their authorised dealer instead of giving proper answer.

Better off going with other brands instead when the manufacturer can't even be arsed to provide any information.

Let us know if the other companies give a better answer? Cheers

I am actually quite impressed with the Toshiba YouMe. During my 1st servicing to watch the heatsink, it really lived up to it's feature set where it mentioned that the YouMe's heatsink has a coating that prevents dust from sticking to the metal fins when condensation water starts dripping through the fins. And it actually works too. Am quite impressed. How did I know that this was the case? Because even the water that came down the white bag and hose was mostly transparent without even much dust. And even the cleaners said the same thing. My fins were quite clean.

The design of the Toshiba YouMe makes it easy to dismantle too. So another plus there if you want to do your own DIY cleaning including accessing the rotating fan blower.
