I don't see how positive pressure is a bad thing if your case is not completely sealed.

I'm using a corsair 540

so far using the above set up I noticed that dust only builds
up at the front filter. Is my fan setup ok?

or what else could be done to optimize it

It's a good thing that dust only builds up at the front filter. And yes, the fan setup is fine.

No, it does not mean a 140mm fan is weaker than a 120mm. Different fan blades are designed for different purposes. Some fans are meant for static pressure while some are optimized for airflow. 120mm is preferred for pressure optimised fans because of the smaller area that the air is forced through.

Corsair has two fan models in 120mm, the SP120 and AF120. The SP has a lower CFM rating than the AF model but it generates a higher pressure zone AFTER the blades, not before it. SP fans are generally used if the air needs to be forced through a space just after it, that is 'obstructed' in a sense, such as a radiator or hard drive cage.

In what kind of situation do you need a higher pressure zone before the blades? Exhausts?

The question is, can you create one in front and what do you need to create it?

I would guess is if you need to pull the air through something like a radiator but to do so you need some creativity like ducting and all, which might not too feasible in a case.

I give you the ultimate solution. Mod your case. Drill a hole at the bottom & insert a tube which goes to the centre of the case. The other end of the tube is an air compressor pumping in filtered air. Have all fans set as exhaust.

Ultimate air cooling & dust free. Can even have an air conditioner pumping in chill air.

I was thinking of something like this, provided that the case is seal:

i have the same setup , but i removed all the stock fan and put corsair 140mm AF
the top fan is mount on top of the rad sux air out

Dude, where you are pointing where the higher pressure is is AFTER, not before. After is the outlet of the fan where the air goes into the fan, before is the inlet of the fan where the air goes into the fan.

If you want that kind of setup, you will want airflow optimised fans, rather than pressure optimised fans.

Anyone using fractal design arc midi r2? I installed an additional intake fan in the front and bottom of the case. I find that the wire mesh filter at the bottom is not as effective as the sponge filter in dust prevention. Any suggested solutions?

Can try silverstone FF143 filters.

blocked by ur gfx card already, i believe the air will escape thur those hole as well
Is your card so high that it blocks the entire depth of the CPU, from the left panel to the right? I don't think so, right There is still space for the air to flow to the top, as long as there is a suction.

If the airflow is blocked, why do case designers even bother with those cutouts on the top rear and the top panel? They might as have just kept the those holes you mentioned.

edit: oh, you have a Corsair 540. No wonder. But even for your case (heh), the air can still flow up because there are no optical drives to get in the way of the air going up.

I do think that sponge filter (albeit cheaper) is actually better in dust filtering than mesh.. Logically, it is because the air has to go through a thicker filter as compared to the mesh.

Like using a sponge to filter water instead of a mesh.

Why no one take my idea seriously? :(

About modding the case? if you can find someone to do it at a cheap price, maybe at the cost of 2 fans, then why not? otherwise, it isnt a good idea...

seriously thinking, it is not the ultimate solution
1) if all exhaust are same pressure and airflow, it leave inside a vortex of hot air circulating, causing a buildup of heat inside
2) by having exhaust thru radiator, you are reducing the performance of those water AIO.

Saw this video yesterday, and the whole time I was wondering "Whoa, so in fact all intakes and no output fans actually do work!"
