maybe misconception of how an air purifier works, dont laugh but there are people who mix up air purifier and humidifier.

or maybe not suitable for bedroom, didnt research before buying or didnt expect it to be too loud for light sleepers.

some just buy for the hype.
some thinks it extends their life immediately after buying.
many many more reasons.

stand around and listen to how promoters try to sell these things. u get hear funny stuff.

Ok, that is a legit reason.

Actually it'd be too loud for normal sleepers. You can turn it down, but then it'd depend on how many ACH/Air Change Per Hour you need.
After all, a 99 dollar Sharp A28 is also pretty silent (38dB) in medium (120 m3/hr) @ 2m away and damn super silent @ low speeds....and even more compact than the XM2.

The Sharp A28 is actually sufficient for BTO bedrooms, those are about 11 sqm. With cabinets and stuff in the room, it's cool. Still get 5 ACH.


AX40 would be the one that's too loud for some of those ultra light sleepers.

You never know... From some of the stories shared in part 1 of the thread I think, one possibility is maybe buy already go back, kenna scolded by elderly parents or unappreciative spouse for wasting money on this kinda 'bo liao' appliance. Maybe they refuse to use, no choice but to get rid of it.

Prefilter no issue lah, big particles. It's like your aircon filter. Just wash it in the toilet, 20 seconds job nia.

The good thing is that HEPA filtration does not drop in efficiency when it clogs up, not supposed to be, on paper. It does reduce in airflow though. Electrostatic filtration starts out very high when clean but drops in efficiency as it collects dust. Airflow maintains.

SO which part are you in? Shanghai is borderline red, Beijing has 蓝天！

So I can still use the AP? Look so dirty I din dare to use, should be the model with humidifier cos I can hear water inside. The humidifier would actually be useful for the dry weather

Can, there just might be a smell only. Usually is not an issue.
But the hotel air could be ok, so no need to use.

the XM is really big. i got a bit of shock when i saw it at ntuc. the other APs at ntuc are more compact.

Here is my review on XM AP2.
I bought from q0010. Paid $186 after $30 discount from ori price $216. Arrive on 5th business day

Packaging ok n come with travel adapter.
Despite of the size which pretty big compare to other brand, its not heavy.

Test 1: power up at living room 2.5x size of normal bedroom for 2 hours auto mode. PM2.5 start from 39. End at 33. All window/door closed.
As per follow member, it useless on auto mode.

Test 2: power on bedroom in turbo mode for 10 mins. Start PM2.5: 35. After 10 mins. Hovering around 9 to 11. I leave it on in auto mode for whole day 7 hours later. Still same PM2.5.

Noise level
Turbo mode: Unbearable. Like my vacuum cleaner running.
Auto mode: my air con noisier. So i can barely hear from AP. Just 30 cm from my ear.
Night mode: Cant hear a thing. Probably other noise louder.
I consider myself quite bearable to noise.

Android App. I like able to see PM2.5 reading. Regardless accurate or not. Just fun. Remote turn on n speed control is great feature. I cant find timer mode. Anyone?
It lacking openapi thus cannot plot graph or other app to monitor.

I tried china smart home app. All mandarin, even EN modded one is partially mandarin. I cant read Mandarin so give up.

PS. My room is not so clean. Consider quite amount of dust.

Thanks for the write up, just as i suspected. Same as the M8088A. Very limited usefulness in usual day situations. It's not due to the SHARP IR LED sensor module though (mentioned before one guy has a pretty good meter based on that), more of the lousy xiaomi circuitry.

But it would come in handy during 2015 levels of haze. That one would show the spike up. I mean, heck.....Sharp, Samsung etc all would as well.

BTW, that one is not PSI, AQI, API, not an index figure. That is ug/m3, concentration.

With the review on XM2 by bro tanyj82, I'm Glad I didn't go buy XM1 that day. Think I still prefer my two trusty Samsung AX40...

Low noise quite important.
If need be I will upgrade to the 352X80 for the living room... Solid!
