Note : The funny thing is that it has next to no smell though (I'm talking about start-up time when the smell is the strongest), even though it's somewhat dark.

This one has been in operation from beginning of Nov after the heavy haze season has settled (then the filter was too damn smelly after the air cleared on Nov 1st/2nd).

So basically 5 months of clean Singapore air. Daily usage approx. 12 hrs.

Location, South of Singapore Tg Pagar, high floor.

It's a 311mm x 281mm x 45mm thick Taobao HEPA. You can see the pieces of plastic packaging that I cut + use 3M scotch tape to tape at the sides to reduce bypass. 1 minute job.

Really self-explanatory.

Note, there is a rough pre-filter before this already. In comparison, Blueair air purifiers have NO pre-filters. :s13:

Mine is about the same condition as yours. Only 3 months though. Changed during new year. Should be changing it tomorrow.

There will be a point whereby you switch it on it will smell heckloads, and then after 10 mins it'd taper down by a lot, but still a wee bit.

Some people find that disgusting, some people don't.

Same for HDBs, some just smell weird and have that musky smell. The owners wouldn't mind that, obviously.

And as mentioned before several posts before this, there is also this second degree pollution risk from the HEPA, should some mold compromise it over time. It is not likely to happen usually, but remember Singapore is a pretty humid place unless you really whack the aircon to bring the RH constantly down during AP operation. If you switch on just 28 deg C after 3AM and you have a meter showing the RH%, you will know what I mean. Some sites and even the Ah tiongs/Taobao know this thing and recommends changing regularly.

The same goes for water filters. Doesn't mean that PUB water is super clean with very low TDS ppm, hence you can use it like.....wah, 6-months -> 6-years. :s13:

So it really depends.

wow you change once every 3 months?

You use for 6 months, eg you start this Apr-May whereby you'll receive your new APs. Choose a daily user AP and then in Nov after the haze season, you cut open it. You will be simply amazed at the stuff that it caught. But be careful, you will see some ultra fine powder flying around when you cut it which is very visible if you have a LED flashlight shining at it, those stuff are not good.

But of coz, obviously you can push until 18 months, no issue. I used to do that with my Sharp KC-840. Really smelly then, I remember. But cant be helped, each filter $99.

Now you know why I mentioned for "rough use".

You would not learn these practical points from websites or the manufacturer.

Others will mention "what happens when you are not at home then? Say in office where people often stay 8-12 hrs daily as well? So heck....APs are still useless!".

Well, they do not know that offices' HVAC AHUs do employ like F7 to F9 filters. During 2015 haze, my office (MNC) got the levels down to 25 ug/m3 raw on the meter, with external doing about 200 ug/m3 raw.

Even my typical 24-hr NTUC @ Tg Pagar Plaza got the levels to about 80 ug/m3 raw on the meter with external comfortably over 200 ug/m3 raw. They do employ some sort of G4 filter or something. :s13:

For longer term use, just go to neighborhood electric shop and get a replacement cord

It's shipping from China anyway, if you are going for the cheapest, as we get from Taobao.

Use 65DG sea, damn slow is $184 after shopback.sg

Use 4PX air is about $20more

I am guessing that there are a few of the "new" Qoo10 sellers pricing the AP very competitively with the limited group buy so as to get in the positive reviews now in anticipation of the upcoming haze season when voluminous buying happens.

I did not go with this seller but bought my XM2 from another "new" Qoo10 seller - paid less than $200 after the Gift Card and Coupon discounts. Shipment currently on the way to Spore and hope to receive it next week.

Anyone bought from this seller. only 2 review
Seems to be lowest in Qoo10

http://list.qoo10.sg/item/INSTOCK-SUPER-SALE-AUTHENTIC-ORIGINAL/451126555?selectedOptions=#itemInfo

SGD 218 + free shipping.

Not sure if it includes the filter or not .

been looking out for the past 2 weeks, now got 30 dollar off 160 and 100 dollar off 500 coupon

so far seen nothing from the listing that can bring down the price to 250+ with or without coupon...

That's cos you missed the $50 off $300 coupon from 2 weeks ago (9th to 15th March event). $50 off $300 is the best one for ax40 since it's just nice at $300+ mark. Like I posted, could go down to $249 with qpoints. Wait for next round then. :)

**** man, kinda regret buying from him. I suspect he got it from Taobao.

Hope it won't be like the RMB29 filter with reduced performance.
Mine was stuffed into the filter compartment in the AX40 when i got it from goni last year. :s12:

Filter is from Samsung, TB HEPA have significantly more airflow resistance.

Is your tb filter custom to 45mm? If so, the airflow resistance should be lower? You measured it with an air flow meter?

Not that much diff actually. Say TB Commoner HEPA 25mm (29RMB) is 12.5 kph at the outlet and the TB 45mm customised (110RMB) is 15kph.
I customised a humongous 60mm one at 180RMB, also managed to reach 16kph nia.

Samsung original is 16kph.

And we have to generally treat that the TB's efficiency is 5% lower than Samsung's H13.

But if used for longer periods like 1 year, the TB 45mm can sustain for longer at very slightly higher airflow speeds before clogging. Not a lot, but it's there.

The 25mm, really treat it as super disposable. I'm maciam a permanent AP and heavy user, so it would make a difference to me. Best value and performance compromise is still 29RMB Commoner HEPA, I got it for 25RMB only though.

Earlier I posted that the TB commoner HEPA has CADR of 200 m3/hr in the AX40. If you calculate yourself, it's actually an extremely conservative number. I don't want to balloon no numbers. Lots of buffer. :D So use it in your 4-room BTO and MBR with confidence.
Also tried + tested + measured by a myriad of particle counters. No issue.
