Anyone tried the black colour true HEPA filter for xiaomi air purifier? Realise it is compatible with older models like 2S or 2. The filter abit more ex, around $50 as compared to green/purple/blue filter. Is it worth it?
New filter model? Got link? Wait...the usual 3 colours is not (true) HEPA?
Save the money, you won't notice the difference, nor will you be able to measure the difference with laser particle counters in real world conditions in the room (been testing for so many years already). All the filters can handle haze, allergens, and also have a MPPS of 0.3 microns.
What i have only measured to make a difference is the output vent air quality/PM concentration.
Coz CADR is dependent on both airflow volume and filtration efficiency.
I have tried with other "True HEPA" ie H13s and H10, H11, H12 whatever.
(I still have some Sharp H10 stocks actually, more than a decade old liao and still working).
I have both Sharp H10 and H13s, the H13 does put out a little lower airflow volume, so i believe CADR is around the same as the H10 overall.
However, i have also measured H13 Samsungs vs Taobao H11s. The latter is both lower in efficiency (around 90-93%) and also much lower in airflow speed on the anermometer (around 30% lower). But this is Samsung vs Taobao generics, totally different stuff and filter media material used (might be partially caused by the slightly lower pleating of the Taobao generics also, even though i made the dimensions to be of the same including the depth)
So there really are a lot of factors at play. Including the leakiness of the room in a dense haze episode. In short, you confirm won't be able to feel and know if the filter is H10 or H13. Those who went through 2015 haze season with meters in their hands would know this.
This is esp so with the harder times nowadays and for the next few years possibly.
Of coz if one is feeling rich and think you have lots of spare disposable income, then no issue just go ahead and spend the money.
PS. What actually really bothered me and my wife with regards to needing to changing the filter is the air filter smell. With the haze and air quality here in SG, it is rare to get a clogged filter, unless if you are really in a dusty area and you are pushing to 18 to 24 months (not supposed to do that in the first place also).
You push a filter past 12 months esp, be it Samsung, Sharp original filters or Taobao generics, you will sure get it one. Once i bought a Samsung AX40 second hand AP on carousell and OMG the filter smelled so damn bad. (it was $50 only, opened it up and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and it's still operating now in my bedroom 5 years later).
Funnily, my Mfresh filter output doesn't smell that bad even at over 12 months.
And yeah, in 2015 after the haze season, all the aircons and filters all smelled damn bad, confirm need to change out. Many have complained about this.
