You are not right for current Japan models
I am owner of 2013 model Daikin TCK70P
It has semi HEPA filter + electrostatic

I measured output. It's comparable with my real HEPA Sharp A61/A51

Latest edit - Found the info. I posted in the next page, the TCK, ACK, MACK series are Japanese Domestic Market models...100V (not 110V).
The MC70, MCK57 range etc are 220-240V models intended for international markets.
They were measuring 341 m3/hr for the MC70 (which is approx. the same as the AX40 as the Chinese agencies measured 323 m3/hr for that), and the spec is 420 m3/hr airflow. Not too shabby. It's actually E10/HEPA 10 thereabouts
On the Chinese sites :
They advertise as electrostatic or 静电, if there is any "mechanical" HEPA, I suppose the percentage is much lower. The pleating is much wider, and they sell the replacement filter packs with the pleats all folded up.
But it is using the "ioniser" stage before the pleated filter to charge up the particulate matter so that it'd stick better....that is what the Chinese words say, to "cause the pollen and dust to carry a charge before being picked up by the electrostatic filter".
Same as the Blueairs (though the negative ion stage for blueair is just a simple pin I think.
