Saw this model at Home-Fix Marina Sq yesterday. Anyone know of this brand? CADR looks impressive wor...481cbm/hr. No idea how's the power consumption or the noise level though.

but just as i left to collect it he said someone offered $90 & asked if i will match it. Dunno if he was playing me. Since $90 still good price i matched it & got it.

He didnt change the plug but filter was pretty clean.

I saw the Novita 811 at Vivo. Turned it into Turbo and used the hand to feel, really does not seem to be 525 m3/hr. And there is no plastic bag over the HEPA filter kinda thing.

To that bro working in Dubai, pls note that the downtown seems to have very messed up air most of the time. You might wanna wear a N95 if you do spend a decent amount of time outside there. Luckily @ Emirates Hill some 20km away, it's much better.

Seems like the farther away from downtown, it better it gets.

Over here in SG, we measured that at AQIs > 200+, the shopping malls AHU filters weren't that capable of significantly reducing indoor PM2.5 vs external ambient levels. So do take note if that bro is shopping with the family over at downtown Dubai, esp with your newborn.

We do have quite a few sandstorms here, but not that often. The air can be quite polluted in most busy areas of the city. With petrol price of S$0.7/L no one really cares much about environmental friendly cars, so there are plenty of fuel hungry cars with engines like 6.4L Hemi etc. I am not sure how are these stats accurate provided by Aqicn, but I am surprised Zabeel Park to be the most polluted. Although the traffic around this area is probably the highest, I would rather think that industrial zones like Jebel Ali would be more polluted.

The Hitachi A8000 has enough airflow horsepower, no worries. Pls remember to leave it at no less than medium speed and not sleep or low speed. It might be a bit different in UAE in that you guys would switch on the aircon far more often and for a longer duration than in SG, take my word for it, just pay attention to the indoor/outdoor air exchange rate.

Some of us have been playing with CO2 meters (which probably is somewhat indicative on VOC levels as well, assuming the source is at same levels as CO2 generation and that your apt is not newly renovated with new furnitures, glues, walls/floors/custom cabinetry....which then might get quite a fair bit higher) and I found that it's somewhat necessary for our regular HDB rooms + aircon to leave a 0.5-1cm gap for the windows to keep the CO2 levels well below 1500ppm. When it is fully closed with aircon at 26 deg C and relying on the very very slight cold/hot air exchange at the under-door gap, it easily hits above 2000ppm, I managed to peak at 2800ppm once. The same story probably can be said of VOC.

With a decent air-exchange with external air, you don't really need to worry about good AC or formaldehyde levels from new furnitures etc. Besides, regular air purifier filters cannot touch CO2 gas. Only a CO2 scrubber can.


And another piece of good news is that even though it's winter now (inversion layers possible? coz large temp differences), Emirates Hill location seems to be pretty decent.

The aqicn values are legit, they are from the Dubai Municipality.
However, they are 1-hr concentration raw data converted directly to AQI and presented as "near real-time" on aqicn.org.

Index figures like PSI and AQI have health advisories (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, Unhealthy, Very Unhealthy, Hazardous) but such advisories are based on the averaged/sustained 24-hr duration. ie 15 mins, 60 mins or even 120 mins do not have Health Advisories attached to them.
But with our SG haze experience in 2014/15, many of us Healthy Individuals have experienced quite a fair bit of symptoms like headaches, throat dryness etc well under PSI 100/AQI 150 Unhealthy threshold.

For your baby, I'd wholeheartedly advise you to follow the Unhealthy for Sensitive Grps breakpoints

It might be more useful to follow the 8hr or even 1hr thresholds as pictured below.

I just convert the following concentration ug/m3 into AQI for your reference. Then you can easily gauge and take note for your baby when it hits AQI 139 for 1-hr duration and AQI 89 for 8-hr duration.

Zabeel Park is PM2.5. This is very unlikely to be sandstorm which deals with much bigger than even PM10 (and besides I googled and found that they are frequent in Summer time only when there are NW Shamal winds, and in Mar 2011 there was a major one that affected large swaths of Middle East).

Dust storms also do not not really PM2.5 range. There is a difference between sand storms and dust storms.

5-days detailed history can be seen if you click that double square icon. Jebel Ali is PM10 though. Can't confirm if PM2.5 is above this or below this though.
But it probably is not low.
