Need to use air purifier everyday ?

There are people who have asthma, allergic rhinitis, pregnant ladies, elderly, infants/children...who may have dermatitis, allergies etc. Haze can have an effect on infants and the fetus in the womb, studies have shown....I googled before coz my wife was pregnany with number 2 last year.

My Sharp KC-840 literally cured my allergic rhinitis since 6 years ago. I was a sufferer for over 30 years. Every morning wake up sure stuffed nose, sometimes v serious and need to take chloropheniramine which further made me drowsy and unable to pay attention for at least 4 hours after that.

If got money and can easily afford this, just spend. It's not like spending on a 200k car on a 10k combined salary.

$429, 10 years. 42 dollars per year. $99 filter for 1.5 years, or 66 dollars per year. What say you? Some spend more on 1 meal per pax.
Purifiers can be used for a room with 2-3 pax.

Same goes for air-conditioning etc.


N95 masks, I got at usd7.xx per box of 20 for 3M 9210, some at 9.17 per box. Vs S$78 at Guardian. Also got 9211, with valve. A little amt of $$$, for 5 years coverage.

Cannot put $$$ to health lah, bro.

Are the Samsung air purifiers in Qoo10 worth buying?

Have been using 1 for 9 months. No issue. Only problem filter must buy from Q0010 too. ($64 per piece)

IQAir and Blueair are the high-end workhorses. In price-sensitive Singapore, I guess they may not do as well as their lower priced counterparts. And of coz got the not so popular workhorses like Austin mate etc...

But the price and performance/specs look good. The size is 36 x 47 x 21 cm. 6.9kg weight. The filter looks thick and big enough (which affects the amt of fine particulates it can hold - ie filter longevity). 34W, if it's same as Sharp's motor power consumption and efficiency, then it should move ard the same amount of air.

H13 filter.
Able to work with local voltage.

Definitely good price @ 249 shipped via FedEX.

You can get those 3M Filterete MPR2200 and cut it out and DIY fit with scotch tape. That's about it. HEPA H13 filters not easy to fit in.

This is my 3M Filterete MPR2200 that I fitted into my Sharp KC-840, during last year's haze. Actually I fitted it for 7 weeks, started like 5 days after PSI 401. This is the amount of fine particulate matter after 7 weeks.
BTW, there is another very fine mesh prefilter that filters all those dust and what nots in front of it liao (very much finer than your stock aircon filter). This is probably all the residue PM2.5 that was floating in the air around the region for weeks after the dense haze.

Definitely got difference one lah. Haze is actually not tttthhhhaat difficult to filter out.

The difficult one is formaldehyde. That's a VOC, molecules so small that it's measured in a few angstroms (less than 1 nanometer, or < 0.001 microns) and no ULPA can touch. But luckily if you do not have new wood furniture (the cheap ones with pressed wood, glues etc), you won't have any issue.

What I mean by the above paragraph is that formaldehyde is an unwanted VOC that is not easily adsorbed by activated charcoal. Other known methods like zeolite/attempted electrical or electronic breakdown of the molecule (forgot the method) also won't touch it noticeably, got a study done by a Taiwan uni before.

Activated charcoal can adsorb other VOCs like smell molecules. The coconut husk type is good for air purification coz the pits are sized nicely for these scent molecules. Followed by bituminous coal.

But don't have to worry too much if no small kids or elderly who are susceptible. I know I am ok with new car smell (formaldehyde, can rise to very dangerous levels esp over long period of time). My father is ok, my wife ok, my 2 kids also ok. But my mother cannot, 5 mins into a new Sonata taxi can tap out liao, want to vomit and after that headache. Not not 1 time but many times. Seasoned Sonatas are ok, even with lousy cab drivers.

So yeah, see if you are affected or not ba..... It's no joke.

Left is H10, right is H13. Sharp filters for KC-840 (H10) and KC-A40 (H13). Both are physically the same in dimensions.

You can see that the H10 (left) is very slightly coarser. Can expand the image, I uploaded it max res.

Yep...that's a MERV-13 filter used in the vid (roughly equivalent to HEPA 13).
