Wussred bro, how did u get the laser particle counter? Must get on taobao or can buy from qoo?

Mine is listed on taobao but it got delisted already.
Issue is that you can only purchase devices without built in li-ion batteries built on. All the other models have built in batteries.

Moreover, mine is the cheapest (but works well and accurate and sensitive enough) and its without batteries.

Still looking for a chicken pox party for my 16 mth old to join. Older one got warranty liao. :s12:

Indeed it's a wrong concept.

On 6th Oct, PH due to Hari Raya the day before.....we hit 3-hr PSI 153 or NEA 1-hr PM2.5 of 131 ug/m3 (AQI 190) for South region 1800hr reading (ie 1700-1800h). Out on the streets, there were families with toddlers and pregnant women walking out on the streets.

How bad is AQI 200? The funny thing is that AQI 200, Malaysia would cut all schools, and they did cut like 3X in 2014.

Hazy holiday as PSI hits highest reading this year, AsiaOne Singapore News

And in the evening, around 400 people showed up for band performances at the Marina Bay Sands Waterfront Promenade. Housewife Cheren Wong, 47, was there with her two sons, aged 15 and 17. "It was okay, as long as the PSI did not climb to over 200," she said. "If it continues to climb, it will definitely be a concern."

ehh, this is not in the states whereby advertising(facebook) pox parties are plentiful. still it is not feasible.

so much #yolo folks during that time.

anyway, here is one recent article on "Reducing air pollution improves people's health".

As Smog Thins in L.A., Dramatic Evidence of Kids' Healthier Lungs

New study shows Los Angeles–area kids have fewer breathing problems now than they did in the 1990s.

Parents Notice Cleaner Air

"It's pretty amazing," says Long Beach resident Maria Gugerty, whose 17-year-old son, Will, is representative of millennials in the study who grew up with the more polluted air. "It demonstrates that even in a huge city in a huge state with big pollution problems, if people put their mind to it, you can make significant changes."

Gugerty, who has lived in Long Beach since the early 1990s, recalls regularly spotting soot on her windows and seeing a smog-blanketed horizon while driving. When her son was in elementary school, he struggled with asthma and complained frequently about his breathing. But she hasn't heard him complain in years.

"Often you could see this thick layer of gunk in the air, but I don't see that much anymore," Gugerty says.

Haze worsens in Riau
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Archipelago | Thu, March 05 2015, 6:48 AM

Persisting forest and land fires in regencies across Riau have led to deteriorating air quality, bringing the pollution rate to a dangerous level in the province’s northern areas on Wednesday.

The province’s Environmental Management Agency (BPLHD) reported that air pollution standards index (ISPU) equipment indicated that air quality had reached an alarming level of 300 on the pollutant standards index (PSI) Wednesday morning.

Thick haze blanketed Bengkalis regency in the morning, creating smog that reduced visibility at the Bengkalis seaport to less than 1 kilometer.

The haze was said to have been caused by land fires on Padang Island in the Meranti Islands regency, sent southward by winds at a speed of between 9 and 39 km per hour.

Antara news agency said that port authorities declared an alert status due to the conditions.

Air pollution, however, improved later in the day, with air quality recorded at 84 PSI, or medium level.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that Terra and Aqua satellites had detected 86 hot spots in a number of regions in Riau on Wednesday.

“Data from 7 a.m. on March 4 shows that the 86 detected hot spots are among 96 hot spots across Sumatra,” head of the BMKG’s Pekanbaru office, Sugarin, said.

Of the 86 hot spots, 55 were indicated to be fires, with a reliability of 70 percent.

The Riau provincial administration has declared an emergency status for forest fires in Riau, where slash-and-burn agriculture practices are believed to be the culprit behind the annual disaster.

Between January and March this year, no less than 379 hectares were affected by fires, according to data from the Riau Emergency command post.

Most of the hot spots were detected in the northern part of the province. A total of 36 hot spots were recorded in Bengkalis, 16 in the Meranti Islands, 12 in Pelalawan regency, eight in Siak regency, six in Rokan Hilir, three in Kota Dumai, two each in Rokan Hulu and Kampar and one in Indragiri Hilir regency.

Since Tuesday, the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has created artificial rain south of Bengkalis and north of Siak regencies. The operation will be focused on the eastern coast of the province over the next few days, especially in peat areas in Bengkalis, Siak, Pelalawan and Dumai regencies.

The cloud-seeding method has been chosen to help solve the difficulty of reaching the locations of the fires.

The Riau administration has created an action plan for forest and land fire mitigation and prevention, which is aimed at freeing the province from the disasters that have been taking place for the past 17 years.

The action plan includes the designation of peatland as a protected area, canal blocking to maintain the wetness of peat, document evaluation and environmental licensing for plantation and forestry companies to prevent and mitigate forest and land fires, law enforcement against companies disobeying audits and the establishment and provision of incentives for fire-aware communities in fire-prone areas.

In Jakarta, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya has asked all parties to remain alert.

The minister said that according to the BMKG, Indonesia would be influenced by weak El Nino weather patterns until June, resulting in lower intensity and frequency of rain. Among the prioritized fire prevention and mitigation provinces are Jambi, Riau, South Sumatra, West and Central Kalimantan. - See more at: Haze worsens in Riau | The Jakarta Post

Winds still indicating that it's from Peninsula Malaysia. But if there are any weird storm happening, it may cause the wind to come from NW - SW direction, ie Riau.

Can try the 620. Specs look good but im skeptical on the power.

Seems that the only change from 611-i to 620 is the DC motor which results in claimed longer durability but lower airflow... hmm wonder if it's a worthwhile trade-off. Anyway, the power consumption can't beat the 50250 :s13:

I have played with the 611 before at Robinson's Orchard. Seems like the airflow is quite a bit how siao one. Do take out the HEPA filter (no resistance) and check for airflow.

PS. The HEPA filter seem to be too small for 600 m3/hr airflow too, even for the original size. If you buy from taobao next time, I think your output might be lower than 300 m3/hr.

Can maintain watch.

The Elusive El Nino has been official declared by NOAA (previously declared by Japan's JMA in December liao.

It's a weak one and not expected to cause any major changes due to the timing (spring). But if it persists till 3 months later to June, expect fairly dryer and hotter weather than 2014 (which was already prolonged hot/dry).

Chuanz, can i ask if you can easily program the total average of N, S, E, W and C for the daily average ug/m3 from 1 Oct 2014 till now?

ie daily average of South from Oct 1st to now, divided by total number of days.

Buy the purple strepsil. Helps decently by numbing! Take care. Do use your AX40, it's about 30 ug/m3 measured on my laser particle counter for South right now.

Forest fires expected to worsen in extreme weather | The Jakarta Post

Forest fires expected to worsen in extreme weather
The Jakarta Post, Batam/Pekanbaru | Archipelago | Sat, March 07 2015, 7:52 AM

It is feared that extreme weather, human error and limited fire extinguishing facilities will worsen forest fires in Batam, Riau Islands province, with fire frequency predicted to increase this year.

Data from the Batam Free Trade Zone Authority (BPK FTZ) fire department show that there were 102 cases of forest fire from January to March 6 this year, while the total number of forest fires last year was 336 cases, each covering over five hectares of forest.

“The fires were due to human actions and the extreme dry season,” fire department head Slamet Riyanto said. Moreover, given that his department had only 16 fire engines, he said, the number of forest fires would probably be higher this year.

The latest reported case occurred in a forest in Tiban Kampung Batam. As of Friday, over five hectares of forest had burned down, spreading thick smoke across the area.

Meanwhile, in Riau province, efforts to extinguish forest and land fires with artificial rain using weather-modification technology have been halted for several days after the Cassa 212-200 aircraft used in the program experienced an engine problem.

Head of the artificial rain technical managing unit (UPT) at the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Heru Widodo, said that an engine problem had been spotted on the left wing of the aircraft that his office had rented from Pelita Air Service.

“The oil is leaking. For safety reasons, we decided not to force the aircraft to fly,” Heru said over the phone from Jakarta on Friday. The damage was found as the aircraft was about to take off on a second cloud-seeding sortie on Wednesday afternoon. The plane was taken to the haze post at Roesmin Nurjadin airport in Pekanbaru.

Heru explained that BPPT technicians had tried to fix the problem but had failed because the necessary spare parts had to be brought from Jakarta. Because of the damage, salt-based cloud-seeding has halted temporarily. “To help reduce hotspots for the time being, we are conducting water-bombing using two helicopters,” Heru said.

The last cloud-seeding operation was reported to have caused rain to fall over the Dumai, Indragiri Hilir and Pelalawan regions, he said. “Hopefully the Cassa can be repaired soon so that more artificial rain can be made,” he said, adding that natural rain was falling, but not equally over all regions.

Based on observations from the Pekanbaru station of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) using the Terra and Aqua satellites on Friday morning, Riau still has the most hotspots in Sumatra.

Of the 58 spots detected across the island, according to the observation, 32 were detected in six regencies in Riau. The highest number of hotspots — 18 — was detected in Bengkalis regency, followed by Pelalawan (five spots), Meranti Islands (four), Siak (two), Indragiri Hilir (two) and Rokan Hilir (one).

“Twenty-two of them have an at least 70 percent likelihood of being hotspots,” said agency spokesperson Slamet Riyadi. He predicted that rain would not fall on most of Riau’s eastern coastal regions for the next few days, meaning peatland would remain dry.

“In Meranti Islands, eastern Bengkalis, Pelalawan and Siak, there’s a more than 70 percent chance of rain,” Slamet stated. -
