顺丰快递 and 小米空气净化器。

Heavy stuff really need to top up for shunfeng. I used twice 中通 (supposed to be ok) for single box 15.95 and 11.46kg, both also got slight breakage, from NE China to SZ.

Great, seriously there is no need to get heck loads of filtration for regular folks, or even for infants. You can just slap on the HEPA in front of the fan or some 3M Filtrete electrostatic filters, all very scalable. You'd have all bases covered whatever the PM2.5 concentration is .
Thanks. After reading your post and discussion with my wife, we have decided on the LG as it is for our HDB MBR. Besides the size, cost is also another major factor, and $250+ is within our expectation, considering that this is the first time we are getting an AP. Contacted the seller, and pending on his reply to some of my queries.

Again thanks very much for your input. :)

Hi WussRedXLi,

Received my LG PSR459 on Friday, and has been using it for two nights. As you have pointed out, turbo level noise emission is quite high, so we run it only for 30 mins, and then set it to auto mode thereafter and sleep mode before we go to bed. Only thing is that the blue indication lights disturbs my wife as she is used to sleeping in total darkness, I am not affected though. Even in sleep mode, there is still a single blue light on which is quite bright in a darken room. Other than that, everything works fine. One question though, on the instruction manual, it states that the HEPA filter is washable - is it so? If it is, what is your advice on the wash cycle before we buy a new one?

I am also look for washable air filter cover for my circular fans (16" and 18") like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Washable-Air-...7&sr=8-1&keywords=air+filter+for+circular+fan

Do you know where to get it locally? Cannot find in Home-Fix store.

Thanks

Air purifiers are like that, usually noisy.

Turbo noise level is already pretty good for 318 m3/hr airflow. I'd say if you place it properly in the MBR, you can watch TV with it switched on.

There are 4 speed levels, with 1 being the lowest, you'd find that level 3 is extremely usable even if it was placed at the bedside right beside you. I'd calculated that the airflow in level 3 is about 198m3/hr.

Samsung AX40 highest speed is somewhat quieter than the LG (both same airflow), but still it's higher in noise level than the LG @ level 3. There is no medium speed with the same airflow speed as the LG to speak of. Hence the only -ve point about the Samsung. Want to save a bit of electricity also cannot.

The only brand I know of that you can totally switch off the lights is Sharp. I guess maybe Honeywell/Blueair also, not sure.
For the LG, I just use black electrical tape and cut up small think strips to paste. :D
I do that for the Samsung AX40 also, though it's not as bright so I use 5 small strips of masking tape on top of each other. Works as a nice very low level night light also. :) Novita also has this "issue" also.
I don't know why only Sharp can think of this "total blackout mode" as an important user feature.

Don't bother washing the LG, you can try but it won't really work well, merely extends the filter life a bit. I read before that such washable HEPAs are merely good for 1 washing. Rest assured that once you washed it it'd feel as if it's going to break up liao. The difference between such washable HEPA is that externally they go a harder netting construction wrapping the borosilicate fibre media or something, that's it. The actual media itself is very delicate.

Just learn and buy 2 pieces of customised HEPA from taobao. I have tested before, size is 360x341x45mm depth. The airflow is even higher than original (22kph vs 21kph stock HEPA). Stock HEPA is 37mm thick. Efficiency is high enough not to make a dent in real life usage.
RMB140 each.
There could be sellers who can offer a better deal though, but the combi below is already performance tested by me personally and is not overly ex.
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.9.47.p01skO&id=20676620186&_u=a1u0hcib2c1c
You'd have to IM/阿里汪汪 the seller. Install Microsoft IME under Chinese settings for Chinese char input.

Original LG HEPA is SGD145 but that includes a 8mm thick activated charcoal filter, which in most cases you don't need it here in SG. (airing the room occasionally like 2-3X a day works better....and I don't think you'd work the LG 24/7/365)

The longest that the filter can tong before changing is 12 months. HEPA filters everything in the air including aerosolised viruses and bacteria and mold spores the stuff that grows on your camera lenses etc. Some literature do not recommend past 6 months even. It's rarely about the HEPA being clogged over here in SG, unlike NE China (they change 1.5 - 3 months max)
Some use and AP for that 5-6 pretty hazy days that SG usually gets yearly, but then again if that's the case, why get an AP when a few dollars type 3M Filtrete does the job decently (can reduce > 80% PM2.5 within 20 mins in HDB sized room) for those who are not susceptible/sensitive.

If you are going to use these for daily use as a bid to reduce the need for washing the fan, don't. It reduces the airflow quite a fair bit + increases noise levels.

Can use this if it's for haze. It's just the 3M Filtrete in circular form so as to fit fans

RMB19.90 only, think got buy 2 free 1 promo.

Yet another video that talks about possible secondary pollution if the HEPA is not changed "frequently". Also also about noise.

Video inside :

You might have come across the Midea/美的 air purifier. Seems quite good in performance. Can hope that they crash the price soon since I don't think they managed to move even a single unit in Courts.

Filter is 450 x 300mm x 40mm, which is super big, even bigger than the LG which is among the biggest I have come across. Not sure if can sneak in a customised one with 45mm thickness. But anyway filters are available on TB.

Just got my AX40. Superb. But not sure what is the green light, orange light, white light and red light for.

White light means air ok or green light means air ok?

Wish it comes with remote as well.

Yes level 3 is very quiet, but once swtich to level 4 (Turbo), the fan really whirls...

Don't think we will do that :s22: Just turn the front lights away from us in the night.

Noted with thanks.

Thanks for the link. Since my wife is shopping her stuff from taobao, I will probably add to her shipment to try since it cost only RMB19.90 each.

The colour lights not v accurate one lah....you can check the qoo listing details for what they mean.

White light is ok. PSI 200 is likely to be orange or red.

The most zhun is Sharp.

The LG LA-Q379SB/PSR-459 fan speed "gearing" is nearly perfect. Speed 4 is of coz the max rated of the motor, speed 3 is perfect. If there's any improvement that's need, then it's speed 2 and 1, in which I'd prefer to increase speed 1 and 2 fan speed by 20% more.

But fan 3 is what I'd be using 97% of the time. :D

Remember, if you are picking up an AP from TB, you need to ALWW and confirm that the seller is using 顺丰快递.

Anything is ok as long as price is right and you are getting it or a specific purpose. Eg Sharp A28 @ $99. :D
