saw this at Taobao...

http://world.taobao.com/item/41340681941.htm?spm=a312a.7700714.0.0.hlDHn7#detail

will cost u around S$43...not including shipping fees =:p

Judging by the current exchange rate, that AX40 filter cost roughly $62.20 without postage. Another seller selling at 5 RMB cheaper, still end up like $60~61 SGD without postage. Judging by qoo10.sg, Daiso seller, selling at cheapest $79 SGD, i guess Toabao still bit cheaper.

But for me, maybe i will try out brother WRX method in future when my AX40 need filter change. Can't wait for it to arrive though.

购买请注意:如果货物库存量少,本店有权对不在本店购买主机的客户不发货。

It costs around $70+ total. Not 43. Got TB 3% and CC 2%, and TB 3% and 2% is double coz once you will pay seller and once is to forward to SG. Plus forwarding price.

Maybe can get some friend from China help to purchase and bring over.😂

Someone PMed me asking if we need to filter ultrafine particles or not, as our normal HEPA air purifiers are unable to handle UFPs (which is untrue to a large degree) coz there are some high-end air purifiers which does this.

I have already posted the graph of particle size distribution earlier today.
Anyway, there are UFPs but do not affect us directly as the mass ug/m3 for UFP is very low at our location.

Though yes, you might want to explore some higher degree of UFP filtration if you should live close to a major arterial road or expressway/expressway exit that are jammed with traffic during peak hour etc.

The size distribution of atmospheric aerosols is shown to have three modes with ascending size as illustrated in Figure 1. The life span of particles in the smallest mode, the nucleation mode, which corresponds to particle diameters() below 0.1 µm, is less than one hour because they readily agglomerate and coagulate and transmute into the next larger mode (accumulation mode). The accumulation mode consists predominately of agglomerated and coagulated particles as well as particles from secondary condensation processes and comprises particles from 0.1 to 1 or 2 µm. Particles in this mode have, with up to weeks, the longest residence time in the atmosphere and can travel long distances (hundreds to thousands of kilometres). Their elimination out of the atmosphere is mainly due to precipitation [6,7]. Natural sources determine the composition of coarse() particles with a diameter of more 2.5 µm. Those particles sediment within several hours up to a day out of the atmosphere

Not surprise. Same goes to my AP. My Honeywell HEPA filter wasn't that black since the last check. Yesterday I opened up, it was black.

Imagine your lungs if don't wear mask outside, at home windows open big big, no AP... ;)

(Both inner and outer ring are white in color when brand new, unused)

Blowing air through the 3M filter with a portable fan, this is what I get after one night placing it in our aircond bedroom:

Right one is a new one for comparison.
Its spec says it filters 3 micron particles and above.. so still have PM2.5 to worry. time to get another air purifier.

Yes, of course. Any brand, any model of air purifier can be done, as long as it's not > 60mm filter depth or cylindrical in shape.

Even circular ones can be customised.

Hey, new findng for the Samsung AX40.

(1) The filter depth is 40mm.
So the Taobao customised HEPA of 45mm ain't that deep anyway. Coz the PP media that TB uses is quite a bit more restrictive than the good stuff that original manufacturers like Sharp/LG/Samsung use. Despite being only about 97% efficient @ 0.3microns vs 99.9+ @ 0.3 microns measured for the Samsung with my laser particle counter.

I need to spec the Taobao filter to 60mm in order to increase 10% airflow above the 40mm Samsung HEPA filter. 45mm Taobao HEPA would still be a wee bit below in airflow compared to the 40mm Samsung HEPA.

Of course, all these are masturbation specs. It doesn't really matter much in real life. The Samsung AX40 easily does 10-15 ACH in the bedrooms depending on whether yours is new BTO or old resale (factored in furnitures liao).

For those who have been using the AX40 for quite a while, eg since 2014 haze season, you might wanna use a sharp knife to separate the Activated Charcoal filter from the HEPA.

Before separation measurement. 15.42kph.
After separation measurement. 16.41kph

Increase in airflow = 6.4%.

That's an increase of 20.7 m3/hr, or say 323m3/hr -> 343 m3/hr. :)
Don't worry, the GAC already would have lost its effectiveness in about 3 months of usage.

Cut along the black masking tape with a pen knife. Do not rip out the PU foam as that's the HEPA seal.

The same goes for other air purifiers. Take out the activated charcoal filter during such haze seasons for max filtration. Esp if your house does not have a VOC issue anyway.
